Dizzy Detectives
''Dizzy Detectives'' is a 1943 short subject directed by Jules White starring American slapstick comedy team The Three Stooges (Moe Howard, Larry Fine and Curly Howard). It is the 68th entry in the series released by Columbia Pictures starring the comedians, who released 190 shorts for the studio between 1934 and 1959. Plot After an attempt at installing a door with mishaps galore, the boys are recruited by the police commissioner (Bud Jamison) as police officers. The head of the citizen's league, Mr. Dill ( John Tyrrell), warns the police commissioner that he must capture the "Ape Man", a thief wearing a gorilla suit, that is terrorizing the city, or he will have his job. The boys get a tip that the Ape Man is burglarizing a particular store and head out to catch him. They patrol the antique store, with Curly pausing for a while in a rocking chair aside a cat whose tail happens to swing simultaneously with the rocker. Jules White
Jules White (born Julius Weiss; hu, Weisz Gyula; 17 September 190030 April 1985) was a Hungarian-American film director and producer best known for his short-subject comedies starring The Three Stooges Early years White began working in motion pictures in the 1910s, as a child actor, for Pathé Studios. He appears in a small role as a Confederate soldier in the landmark silent feature ''The Birth of a Nation'' (1915). By the 1920s his brother Jack White (film producer), Jack White had become a successful comedy producer at Educational Pictures, and Jules worked for him as a film editor. Jules became a film director, director in 1926, specializing in comedies such as The Battling Kangaroo (1926). In 1930 White and his boyhood friend Zion Myers moved to the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studio. Richard Edward Botiller (October 26, 1896 – March 24, 1953) was an American character actor of the 1930s and 1940s. While most of his roles were un-credited, many of them nameless as well, he was given more substantial roles occasionally. Life and career Botiller was born on October 26, 1896, in Bakersfield, California. He entered the film industry in 1933, debuting with an unnamed, un-credited role in the western, '' Silent Men''. During the 1930s and 1940s Botiller appeared in over 150 films, film shorts, and film serials. He frequently played a henchman, and sometimes an Indian. Jim Hawthorne (DJ)
Jim Hawthorne (November 20, 1918 – November 6, 2007) was an American radio personality and comic actor. He was a disc jockey who was a pioneer of "free form" radio. Hawthorne was born in Victor, Colorado, and began his career at a Denver radio station. He gained national attention for his broadcasts on Pasadena, California, station KXLA in 1947. While in Los Angeles, he also worked in early television and short films. He also issued his own records such as "Turn Your Head, Sweetheart". Hawthorne moved to Hawaii in the late 1960s and developed the popular ''Checkers and Pogo'' children's show, which ran from 1967 to 1982 (long after he passed the role of "Checkers" to other actors).
