Division No. 3, Newfoundland and Labrador is a census division in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, primarily comprising the South Coast of the island of Newfoundland, starting roughly 10km northwest of Channel-Port aux Basques and ending roughly 10km east of Rencontre East. Like all census divisions in Newfoundland and Labrador, but unlike the census divisions of some other provinces, the division exists only as a statistical division for census data, and is not a political entity. In the Canada 2021 Census, the division had a population of 13,920 (down from 15,560 in 2016) and a land area of 19,912.67 square kilometres. Isle Aux Morts
Isle aux Morts (, ) is a small town on the Southwest Coast of the Island of Newfoundland, with a population of 559 (2021). The town is located approximately east from the Marine Atlantic Ferry Terminal in Port aux Basques along Route 470. There are two walking trails: Harvey Trail, named after George Harvey and his family (information below), and Boat Cove Trail, named for Boat Cove Pond, where residents obtained drinking water years ago. These two trails offer a great view of the harbour and the town. The Walters House museum, which is in an old-style house which shows what life was like in the past in Isle aux Morts. The house acted as the first school and church in Isle aux Morts. Currently, the town contains one convenience store, a local bar and a school housing students from kindergarten to grade 9. Canada 2016 Census
The 2016 Canadian census was an enumeration of Canadian residents, which counted a population of 35,151,728, a change from its 2011 population of 33,476,688. The census, conducted by Statistics Canada, was Canada's seventh quinquennial census. The official census day was May 10, 2016. Census web access codes began arriving in the mail on May 2, 2016. The 2016 census marked the reinstatement of the mandatory long-form census, which had been dropped in favour of the voluntary National Household Survey for the 2011 census. With a response rate of 98.4%, this census is said to be the best one ever recorded since the 1666 census of New France. This census was succeeded by Canada's 2021 census. Conne River
Miawpukek First Nation is a Mi'kmaq First Nations band government in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada, with a registered population of 834 living on-reserve as of September 2019, with another 2,223 living off-reserve. They control the reserve of Samiajij Miawpukek in Bay d'Espoir on the island of Newfoundland. It was formerly known as Conne River until the 1980s. Samiajij Miawpukek was established as a federal Indian reserve in 1987, the first in Newfoundland and Labrador. In 1991, Miawpukek was one of the poorest communities in Atlantic Canada. Due in part to increased education of its members, it has gone on to become the most well-off First Nation in Atlantic Canada after Membertou. Attractions The powwow, started in 1996, is held every year. In 2019, the Miawpukek First Nation opened the "Cannabis Boutique", which they claim is "the first Indigenous-owned and -operated marijuana store in Newfoundland". Seal Cove, Fortune Bay, Newfoundland And Labrador
Seal Cove is a town in the Canadian province of Newfoundland and Labrador, located on Fortune Bay. The town had a population of 100 in the 2021 Census. The population of Seal Cove, Fortune Bay has fallen to approximately 100 largely due to outmigration for education and other work-related pursuits. The town was incorporated in 1972. Historically, residents earned a living by fishing and logging for the large pulp and paper companies located in Central and Western parts of the province. In recent years there has been a greater dependency on work in the construction industry. Rose Blanche-Harbour Le Cou
Rose Blanche – Harbour le Cou is a small town on Newfoundland's southwest shore, about 45 km at the end of Route 470 from Port aux Basques. This community is located in a barren area on the east side of a small bay. In this bay there are 2 harbours that were mainly used to provide shelter for fishing vessels. Scenery includes the rugged granite coastline, and the white and rocky cliffs of "Diamond Cove". Its granite lighthouse was in operation from 1873 to the 1940s. After it was abandoned in the 1940s the building fell into ruins. The spiral stone staircase extends into the tower wall and kept the tower from collapsing while the remainder of the lighthouse fell to ruin. In 1999 the lighthouse was fully reconstructed and serves as a tourist attraction. From Rose Blanche there is a passenger ferry that services the isolated community of La Poile to the east. Ramea
Ramea is a small village in Newfoundland and Labrador located on Northwest Island, one of a group of five major islands located off the south coast of Newfoundland, Canada. The island is approximately 3.14 km long by 0.93 km wide (1.95 miles by 0.58 miles). The other major islands in the archipelago are Great (or Big) Island, Middle Island, Harbour Island, and South West Island. Ramea is inaccessible by road and is serviced by an intra-provincial ferry in Burgeo.
