Diving At The 2008 Summer Olympics – Men's Synchronized 3 Metre Springboard
Men's synchronized 3 metre springboard competition at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics took place on August 13 at the Beijing National Aquatics Center. Like all other synchronized diving competitions at the Olympics, only one round of competition was held. Eight pairs of divers competed. Each pair performed five dives, with both divers from the pair diving at the same time. Nine judges evaluated each dive, with two each judging the performance of the two divers (the execution judges) and five judges evaluating the synchronization of the pair (the synchronization judges). For each dive, four of the nine scores are ignored—the highest and lowest execution scores, and the highest and lowest synchronization scores. The remaining five scores are summed, multiplied by the dive's degree of difficulty, and then multiplied by 0.6 to get a final score for the dive. Beijing National Aquatics Center
The National Aquatics Centre (), and colloquially known as the Water Cube () and the Ice Cube (), is an aquatics center at the Olympic Green in Beijing, China. The facility was originally constructed to host the aquatics competitions at the 2008 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. Chris Colwill
Christopher Colwill (born September 11, 1984) is an American international diver from Tampa, Florida. Colwill graduated from Tampa Preparatory School in 2003 and dove for the University of Georgia in Athens, Georgia under dive coach Dan Laak. He is hard of hearing, with a 60% hearing loss. Colwill competed at the FINA Diving World Cup in China in 2006 in the 1m event finishing third. He won the 2006 NCAA Division I national title in the 1m and 3m spring board. He was unable to compete at the 2007 NCAA national meet due to an injury but rebounded to take the first prize on the 1m spring board in 2008. Diving At The 2008 Summer Olympics
Diving competitions at the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics were held from August 10 to August 23, at the Beijing National Aquatics Centre. Competition format The following events were contested by both men and women in Beijing: *3m Springboard Synchronized *10m Platform Synchronized *3m Springboard *10m Platform Individual events consisted of preliminaries, semifinals and finals. The order of divers in the preliminary round were determined by computerized random selection, during the Technical Meeting. The 18 divers with the highest scores in the preliminaries proceeded to the semifinals.The semifinal consisted of the top 18 ranked divers from the preliminary competition and the final consisted of the top 12 ranked divers from the semifinal. Scott Robertson (born 24 June 1987) is a former Australian Springboard and Platform diver. Scott began diving at Whitehorse Diving Club in Melbourne back in 1993. His coach Doug Walton coached him through to an international level before Scott relocated to Brisbane in 2004 to take up a scholarship at the Australian Institute of Sport . In 2004 he and synchro partner Matthew Mitcham took out a Silver Medal at the World Junior Championships in Belem - Brazil before transitioning to the Senior National Team in 2005/2006. During the Beijing 2008 Summer Olympics, Swain took part in the Men's 3m Springboard Synchronized event with Nicholas Robinson-Baker. Nicholas Robinson-Baker (born 24 June 1987) is an English diver. Robinson-Baker became interested in diving when he attended a boxing camp near Crystal Palace and used the pool there. He participated in the 2008 Summer Olympics, where he was placed 7th overall in the synchronised 3m springboard event with his diving partner Ben Swain. Alexandre Despatie (; born June 8, 1985) is a Canadian diver and broadcaster from Laval, Quebec. He was the world champion at the 1 and 3 m springboards from 2005 to 2007 and is the first, and so far only, diver to have been world champion in all three individual categories (1, 3 and 10 m platform).
