Diving At The 2000 Summer Olympics
At the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, eight diving events were contested for the first time due to the inclusion of synchronized variants for each of the traditional events. The competition took place at the Sydney International Aquatic Centre, from 22 to 30 September, comprising a total of 157 divers from 42 nations. Sydney International Aquatic Centre
The Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre (SOPAC) , formerly Sydney International Aquatic Centre (SIAC), is a swimming pool, swimming venue located in the Sydney Olympic Park in Sydney, New South Wales, Australia. Built in 1994, the SOPAC was a major venue for the 2000 Summer Olympics as it hosted the Swimming at the 2000 Summer Olympics, swimming, Diving at the 2000 Summer Olympics, diving, Synchronized swimming at the 2000 Summer Olympics, synchronized swimming, the medal events for Water polo at the 2000 Summer Olympics, water polo, and the swimming portion of the Modern pentathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics, modern pentathlon competitions. Jan Hempel
Jan Hempel (born 21 August 1971) is a German diver who competed at the 1988, 1992, 1996, and the 2000 Summer Olympics, winning two Olympic medals. Hempel won a silver in 10 m Platform and a bronze medal in 10 m synchronized platform. He also competed on the 3m springboard, scoring "the second best dive of all time" in Vienna in 1993. Olympic career 1988 Hempel made his Olympic debut at age 17 in Seoul, where he placed fifth. 1992 Hempel returned to the Olympics in Barcelona, but again did not medal, placing fourth. 1996 The third time was charm, as Hempel won silver in the 10 m platform, scoring 663.27. He saved his toughest dive for last. He nailed the back 1 somersault with 4 twists from the free position, earning 92.88 points. Anne Katherine Montminy (born January 28, 1975) is a Canadian former competitive diver and lawyer. Diving career Montminy had a number of highpoints in her diving career; she won a gold medal on the 10m platform at 1994 Commonwealth Games and the 1995 Pan American Games. She competed in the 1992 and 1996 Summer Olympics (in Barcelona and Atlanta), but did not advance to the finals. Laura Wilkinson
Laura Ann Wilkinson (born November 17, 1977, in Houston, Texas) is an American diver, 3 time Olympian, and Olympic gold medalist. She is the first woman to win the three major diving world titles. Wilkinson retired in 2008. After nine years of retirement, she returned to competition in 2017 and placed 2nd at Nationals.
