Divine Madonna
Divine Madonna (foaled 8 October 2002) is an Australian Thoroughbred racemare. She won four group one (G1) races, the 2006 Emirates Stakes, 2007 Queen of the Turf Stakes, 2007 Toorak Handicap and the 2007 Myer Classic. Divine Madonna had 26 race starts and only finished out of the top five runners twice in her career. She was a brown mare bred by Mill Park Stud & R. Dinham of South Australia and was sired by Hurricane Sky from My Madonna by Prego (IRE). Hurricane Sky won the VATC Blue Diamond Stakes and AJC All-Aged Stakes and sired 16 stakes-winners that had 32 stakes-wins between them. The Toorak Handicap is a Melbourne Racing Club Group 1 Thoroughbred horse race run as an open handicap race, over a distance of 1,600 metres at Caulfield Racecourse, Melbourne, Australia. Currently, the prizemoney is A$1,000,000. History The race is held annually in October on Caulfield Guineas day, the first day of the MRC Spring Carnival. During World War II the race was run at Flemington Racecourse. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed. Group One, Group 1, Grade I or G1 is the term used for the highest level of Thoroughbred and Standardbred stakes races in many countries. Cheltenham Park Racecourse
Cheltenham Park Racecourse was a horse racing track located in the suburb of Cheltenham in Adelaide, South Australia, between around 1921 and 2008. History The Port Adelaide Racing Club began thoroughbred racing at the course and in 1921 the club bought the site on which the course stands for £25,000. Administration of the course was taken over by the South Australian Jockey Club in 1975. The racecourse was also once served by now-demolished Cheltenham Racecourse railway station on the Outer Harbor railway line. In November 2007, the SAJC sold the racecourse land for A$85 million for a new housing development. It was proposed that the proceeds of the sale be used to help fund the Victoria Park Racecourse redevelopment. However, following the decision to abandon racing at Victoria Park, it was decided to use the money for further development at the Morphettville Racecourse.
