In 1917 he enlisted (having been rejected at first for being underweight) and fought in France in the 27th Division. Arthur Durham (David) Divine, CBE, DSM, (1904–1987) was a prolific South African writer of books on a variety of subjects but will be chiefly remembered for two controversial books on defence issues, ''The Blunted Sword'' (1964) and ''The Broken Wing'' (1966). Divine had been a war correspondent and after the Second World War became the defence correspondent of the British ''Sunday Times'', a post he held until 1975. Early career Born in Cape Town on 27 July 1904, the son of Arthur Henry Divine and his wife, Mabel Frances Durham, he was educated at Rondebosch Boys' High School and Kingswood College, Grahamstown. He was employed as a journalist on the ''Cape Times'' between 1922–1926 and again between 1931–1935. Father Divine (September 10, 1965), also known as Reverend M. J. Divine, was an African-American spiritual leader from about 1907 until his death in 1965. His full self-given name was Reverend Major Jealous Divine, and he was also known as "the Messenger" early in his life. He founded the International Peace Mission movement, formulated its doctrine, and oversaw its growth from a small and predominantly black congregation into a multiracial and international church. Due to his ideology, many consider him to be a cult leader. Father Divine claimed to be God. He made numerous contributions toward his followers' economic independence and racial equality. Neil Divine
Theodore Neil Divine (1939–1994) was an American stellar astrophysicist and planetary scientist whose work centered on the understanding of star formation. Early life and education Divine was born in Orlando, Florida and raised in Dorset, Vermont. He is the son of Dorothy Land Divine. He attended Eaglebrook School and Hebron Academy. Divine was the winner of the Hebron senior prize for scholarship. He also received prizes for outstanding performance in chemistry and mathematics. Divine lettered in swimming, was on the staff of the school newspaper, and was a member of the Glee Club and Record Club. He completed a B.S. in physics from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in 1959. Divine was a varsity swimmer at MIT. Roscoe Divine
Roscoe Divine (born November 3, 1947) is a retired American track and field athlete. He was known primarily as a miler but excelled in shorter distances like the 880 yard ( 800 meters) and in the steeplechase. He ran track for the University of Oregon under Bill Bowerman. He was part of a collection of sub-4 minute milers that collected around Bowerman around that time, when the number of people accomplishing the feat was relatively small. He lettered in track in 1967, 1968, 1969, and 1970. He lettered in cross country in 1969. He was runner-up in the 1500 meters at the 1968 USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. He was ranked in the United States top 10 five times, the best being #3 in 1967.
