District Championship Of Lourenço Marques
The District Championship of Lourenço Marques was a competition for association football clubs in the then officially Portuguese Province Mozambique and was held 40 times between 1922 ad 1961. Participants were the clubs of Lourenço Marques, today's Maputo, the capital of the country. Till the introduction of the national championship in 1956 this was the most important competition of Mozambique. Ferroviário Lourenço Marques holds the record with 14 title wins, ahead of Desportivo and Sporting, today's CD Maxaquene, with 12 and 9 wins, respectively. The no longer existing clubs ''Athletic'' and ''Clube Indo-Português'' won two, respectively one of altogether 38 district championships awarded. Moçambola
Moçambola (or Campeonato Moçambicano de Futebol, Portuguese for Mozambican Football Championship) is the top division of Mozambican football. It is organized by the Liga Moçambicana de Futebol. History In 1976, shortly after the country's independence from Portugal, the competition's first season was contested. Only five clubs took part: Académica Maputo, AD Pemba, Desportivo de Maputo, Desportivo Tete, and Textáfrica. Until 2005, the competition was named Liga 2M. In 2005, the league was renamed to Moçambola. Grupo Desportivo de Maputo, usually known as Desportivo de Maputo, Desportivo Maputo or by the acronym GDM, is an association football club from Maputo, Mozambique. History The club was founded on May 31, 1921, as ''Grupo Desportivo de Lourenço Marques'' by Professor Sá Couto, José Maria Rodrigues, Alfredo Fragoso, Américo Costa, Martinho Carvalho Durão and Professor Cabanelas. Clube de Desportos do Maxaquene, usually known simply as Maxaquene, is a sports club based in Maputo, Mozambique. The club is nicknamed ''Maxaca''. Currently besides football (soccer) there are two indoor sports namely basketball ( CD Maxaquene Basketball) and handball. In such sports Maxaquene is only the club with the most national titles after independence. Maxaquene won its first post-independence title in football, the Taça de Moçambique, in 1978.
