District 7, Ho Chi Minh City
District 7 () is an Districts of Vietnam, urban district of Ho Chi Minh City, the largest city in Vietnam. As of 2024, the district had a population of 456,789 and an area of 36 km². District 7 was formed from the northern part of Nhà Bè district, Nhà Bè District in 1997, connected to the city of Thủ Đức by the Phú Mỹ Bridge, which opened in September 2009. Phú Mỹ Hưng urban area () is a planned community in District 7, District 8 and Bình Chánh district, Ho Chi Minh City. The area is managed by the Phu My Hung Development Corporation. On June 26, 2008, the Ministry of Construction and the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City recognized Phú Mỹ Hưng urban area as a "model urban area" of Vietnam. Direct-controlled Municipality
A direct-controlled municipality is the highest level classification for cities used by unitary states, with status equal to that of the provinces in the respective countries. A direct-controlled municipality is similar to, but not the same as, a federal district, a common designation in various countries for a municipality that is not part of any state, and which usually hosts some governmental functions. Usually direct-controlled municipality are under central government control with limited power. In some cases, a similar term in federal states is the federal city. Thủ Đức ʰu˨˩˦:ɗɨk˧˥is a sub-municipality in Ho Chi Minh City of the Southestern region of Vietnam. History The oldest name what was recorded in this area was Ngãi An (義安), a district-level administrative unit has existed since the Nguyễn lords. However, since October 9, 1868, the French government in Cochinchina has decided to change its name to Thủ Đức or sometimes Thũ Đức (守德) to suit the expansion and upgrade plan for the land. Phú Mỹ Bridge
The Phú Mỹ Bridge () is a cable-stayed road bridge over the Saigon River in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. The bridge was constructed from March 2007 to September 2009 by a consortium consisting of Baulderstone, Bilfinger Berger, Freyssinet (cable stays and stressing), and the Vietnamese company CC620 (concrete, formwork, etc.) and was designed by the French consultant Arcadis (design of the main bridge) and Cardno (design of the approaches). The project manager for the project was AECOM. The Phu My Bridge is 705 metres long across the river, with a main span of 380 metres and the approach viaduct structures on either side of the river are approximately 758m and 638m long respectively. The modified H-shaped main towers, which are 145m high, support a 27m wide main span deck. It has six lanes of traffic; two lanes of vehicle traffic in each direction, and a separate lane for motorbikes and pedestrian footways.
