Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is a public research university located in the urban coastal city of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. QUT is located on two campuses in the Brisbane area viz. Gardens Point and Kelvin Grove. The university in its current form was founded in 1989, when the Queensland Institute of Technology (QIT) was made a university through the ''Queensland University of Technology Act 1988'', with the resulting Queensland University of Technology beginning its operations from January 1989. In 1990, the Brisbane College of Advanced Education merged with QUT. Don Fry
Donald George Fry is an Australian engineer, company director, entrepreneur and philanthropist. NQEA Fry is the owner and chairman of NQEA, founded by his father in 1948 in Cairns, Queensland as a general engineering company contracting to the mining industry, then diversified. Fry started his apprenticeship as a Fitter and Turner with NQEA. Under Fry's direction, NQEA later entered the boat building and maintenance industry, and won the contract to build the 14 Australian follow-on Fremantle class patrol boats for the Royal Australian Navy that entered service in the 1980s, then provided maintenance for the ships. John Petrie
John Petrie (15 January 1822 – 8 December 1892) was a Scottish-born politician, architect, stonemason and building contractor in Brisbane who became the city's first Mayor. John Bradfield (engineer)
John Job Crew Bradfield (26 December 1867 – 23 September 1943) was an Australian engineer best known as the chief proponent of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, of which he oversaw both the design and construction. He worked for the New South Wales Department of Public Works from 1891 to 1933. He was the first recipient of an engineering doctorate from the University of Sydney, in 1924. Sir Manuel Richard Hornibrook Order of the British Empire, OBE (7 August 1893 – 30 May 1970) was an Australian builder and civil engineer. He founded the firm M R Hornibrook Pty Ltd that after merger with Baulderstone became one of the largest Australian civil engineering firms. Known as "MR", Hornibrook was knighted in 1960. Florence Valmai Miller Pidgeon AM (born c. 1927) is a leading figure in the Arts and the construction industry in Queensland. After completing her education in 1945, Florence joined her father's building construction business F.A. Pidgeon & Son Pty Ltd. which was founded in 1927. John Pidgeon
Sir John Allan Stewart Pidgeon (15 July 1926 – 2 June 2016) was an Australian contractor and property developer. He and his sister, Valmai Pidgeon, have been involved with the Queensland construction industry since joining their father's business in the 1940s. Early life Pidgeon was born on 15 July 1926 in Brisbane, the son of Frederick "Allan" Pidgeon and his wife Margaret, and the younger brother of sister Valmai. He attended Yeronga State School and the Anglican Church Grammar School ("Churchie"). Career Their father's business, F. A. Pidgeon and Son Pty Ltd started in 1927, and Pidgeon joined the family company in 1946 after service in the AIF.
