Discovery Channel Hungary is a Hungarian television channel. Discovery Channel began broadcasting to Hungary in 1997. The Hungarian version was launched on March 1, 2005. Advertising sales are handled by a R-Time, which is owned by RTL Klub. Along with the other Discovery channels in Central Europe, Discovery Hungary adopted the new Discovery logo on July 1, 2009. Discovery Channel (Europe) is the Pan-European version of the Discovery Channel. Over the years, the Discovery Channel has been split into many different channels for specific regions. Most language regions in Western Europe now have their own versions of the channel, and the Pan-European is therefore now mostly available in countries in Central and Eastern Europe. The channel is broadcast from the United Kingdom and holds an Ofcom licence. RTL (formerly: RTL Klub) is a Hungarian free-to-air television channel owned by RTL Group. The channel began broadcasting three days after its main rival TV2, one of Hungary's first commercial TV channels. History Since its start, RTL Klub has focused to gain viewers from the urban population. The channel airs programs mostly for a younger (18-49) audience.
