''Discografia Internazionale'' (or ''DI'') was a weekly Italian popular music magazine published from 1966. The magazine's headquarters was in Piazzale Loreto in Milan. It was run by Germano Ruscitto, formerly the press officer for Bluebell Records, in association with Billboard Publications, Inc. With its focus on international recording, the magazine was intended as a rival to the long-established Italian publication ''Musica e Dischi''. DI's singles chart represented Italy in ''Billboard''s weekly "Hits of the World" international charts section. Piazzale Loreto
is a major city square in Milan, Italy. Origin The name ''Loreto'' is also used in a wider sense to refer to the district surrounding the square, which is part of the Zone 2 administrative division, in the northeastern part of the city. The name "Loreto" derives from an old sanctuary that used to be there and that was dedicated to Our Lady of Loreto (a town in the province of Ancona). Transportation The Milan metro Loreto station on line 1 is located partially underneath the square; it is an important transfer station with line 2. Bluebell Records was an Italian independent record label active from 1959 to 1969 as part, along with other labels such as Mini Rec and Belldisc, of the Belldisc S.p.A. group. In 1969 these labels were fused into a new one, which became known as Produttori Associati. The label released records by several artists, such as Fabrizio De André, Carmen Villani, The New Dada, Rocco Granata, Maurizio Arcieri and Duilio Del Prete. For many years, the label's head of publicity was Germano Ruscitto, who went on to become director of the music magazine '' Discografia Internazionale''. ''Musica e dischi'' was the oldest and long-running music industry publication in Italy. '' Billboard'' defined the publication as the "Italian record bible". History It was founded in October 1945 in Milan, Italy, on the initiative of the journalist and musicologist Aldo Mario De Luigi, a former record executive at La Voce Del Padrone-Columbia-Marconiphone (VCM, now EMI Italy). ''Record Retailer'' was the only music trade newspaper for the UK record industry. It was founded in August 1959 as a monthly newspaper covering both labels and dealers. Its founding editor was Roy Parker (who died on 27 December 1964). The title changed to ''Record Retailer and Music Industry News'' shortly after launch. With its issue of 10 March 1960, ''Record Retailer'' became a weekly magazine and started a chart showing the top 50 records in sales. For the period until February 1969, when a standardised UK chart was established with the British Market Research Bureau, the Official Charts Company recognises the listings compiled by ''Record Retailer'' as representing the official national chart.
