Dirty Dragon
''The BJ and Dirty Dragon Show'' (also called ''Cartoon Town'') is a Chicago children's television program that aired on WFLD and later WGN-TV from 1968 to 1974. It starred Bill Jackson (the BJ of the title) and his puppets. WFLD and WGN-TV Jackson had a program called ''Clown Alley'' on WBBM-TV which though critically praised did poorly in the ratings due to an early morning time slot. However, officials at WFLD, then an independent station, were impressed enough to offer Jackson a time slot opposite WGN's popular ''Garfield Goose and Friends''. While Jackson had portrayed a fictional character (Freckles the Clown) on ''Clown Alley'' (and its Sunday morning sister program, ''Here Comes Freckles''), for the new show, ''Cartoon Town with Bill Jackson'' (later retitled ''The BJ & Dirty Dragon Show''), Jackson appeared as himself. Bill Jackson (television Personality)
Bill Ray Jackson (September 15, 1935 – January 17, 2022) was an American television personality, cartoonist, and educator. He was best known for having hosted the children's programs ''The BJ and Dirty Dragon Show'' and ''Gigglesnort Hotel''. Early life and career Jackson was born in Unionville, Missouri. His father worked with a traveling carnival. He said he was very influenced by both comic strips and comic books, with ''Li'l Abner'' and Donald Duck being his favorites. Jackson graduated from the University of Missouri's school of journalism with a degree in television production in 1957, but did not get interested in puppetry until later. His first broadcasting job was at KTVO in Ottumwa, Iowa, where he was a weatherman, copywriter and the station's art director. Gigglesnort Hotel
''Gigglesnort Hotel'' is a syndicated children's television program which ran for 78 episodes between 1975 and 1978. It was hosted by Bill Jackson, previously the host of several Chicago-based children's programs including ''Clown Alley'' and ''The BJ and Dirty Dragon Show''. The program was set, as the title implies, at an old hotel, where Jackson's role was a desk clerk. The program featured many of the characters from the previous show, including Dirty Dragon, the Old Professor, Weird, Old Mother Plumtree, and several others who were created just for the program, such as the hotel's owner, Old Man Gigglesnort. The show was widely praised by critics, and it became one of the highest-rated children's shows in WLS-TV history. The Museum of Classic Chicago Television (also known as FuzzyMemoriesTV) is an online museum dedicated to the preservation of Chicago television broadcasts. Most of the museum's footage originates from "airchecks" of local Chicago channels (and to a lesser extent other cities) that were recorded primarily in the 1970s and 1980s. The registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation displays on its website more than 4000 clips of commercials, news broadcasts, PSAs, bumpers, obscure specials, moments of technical difficulties and other off-air recording excerpts, as well as occasional master tapes donated by former television employees. The Museum of Broadcast Communications (MBC) is an American museum, the stated mission of which is "to collect, preserve, and present historic and contemporary radio and television content as well as educate, inform and entertain through our archives, public programs, screenings, exhibits, publications and online access to our resources."
