Sandbag
A sandbag or dirtbag is a bag or sack made of hessian (burlap), polypropylene or other sturdy materials that is filled with sand or soil and used for such purposes as flood control, military fortification in trenches and bunkers, shielding glass windows in war zones, ballast, counterweight, and in other applications requiring mobile fortification, such as adding improvised additional protection to armored vehicles or tanks. The advantages are that the bags and sand are inexpensive. When empty, the bags are compact and lightweight for easy storage and transportation. They can be brought to a site empty and filled with local sand or soil. Disadvantages are that filling bags is labor-intensive. Without proper training, sandbag walls can be constructed improperly causing them to fail at a lower height than expected, when used in flood-control purposes. They can degrade prematurely in the sun and elements once deployed. They can also become contaminated by sewage in flood waters ma ...

Footbag
A footbag is a small, round bag usually filled with plastic pellets or sand, which is kicked into the air as part of a competitive game or as a display of dexterity. "Hacky Sack" is the name of a brand of footbag popular in the 1970s (currently owned by Wham-O), which has since become a generic trademark. The most common game of footbag consists of two or more players standing in a circle and trying to keep the sack off the ground for as long as possible. History Footbag-like activities have existed for many years. The game is similar to traditional Asian games of kicking the shuttlecock, known as ''jianzi'' or ''chapteh''. The game is also similar to some South East Asian games, such as ''chinlone'', ''sepak takraw'' and ''sipa''. This game is known as ''jegichagi'' (제기차기) in Korea. The Wu Style Tai Chi Chuan practice dates back to at least the 1930s, and French policemen are seen playing a shuttlecock game in the 1955 American film ''To Catch a Thief''. The same princip ...

Dirtbag Clothing
Dirtbag Clothing is a San Diego-based clothing company, founded in 1996. Dirtbag manufactures various styles of clothing including streetwear, rock-n-roll and urban clothing, hoodies, flex-fits, women's tee-shirts/babydolls, and accessories. The company's business model relies heavily on internet sales, social media, and marketing. Dirtbag was projected to reach $1.4 million in sales as of 2004. History Dirtbag Clothing was founded by partners Douglas Canning and John Alves during their final year as film majors at San Francisco State University. Instead of starting with a catalog like most clothing companies, Canning began with a website. From there, he went to the websites of independent record labels to get email addresses for bands that would fit his demographic and offered a 40% discount on those willing to wear their merchandise. In October 2008, Dirtbag re-launched its clothing site and added Jim Stroesser as CEO. Stroesser previously held senior executive positions at ...

Dirtbag (Transformers)
''The Transformers: Generation 2'' (also known as ''Generation Two'' or ''G2'') was a Transformers toy line that ran from 1992–1995, in conjunction with a corresponding comic book series and edited reruns of the original cartoon beginning in 1993. The prior Transformer television series, comic books and toys became known as 'Generation 1' or G1 retroactively, and are now officially referred to as such by toymaker Hasbro. ''Generation 2'' was discontinued as the first '' Beast Wars: Transformers'' toys began hitting the shelves. Toy line ''Generation 2'' Transformers toys were, for the first few months, reissued versions of G1 toys from the 1980s. Some of them were given new spring-powered missile launchers or electronic accessories with flashing lights and sounds, and many of them sported new, vivid color schemes. The trade dress for the toy line included a new logo with alternate Autobot and Decepticon symbols. Because the G1 toys released during G2 represented only a small fr ...

Dirtbag Left
The dirtbag left is a style of left-wing politics that eschews civility to convey a left-wing populist and anti-capitalist message using vulgarity. It is most closely associated with American left-wing media that emerged in the mid-2010s, such as the podcast ''Chapo Trap House''. Origins The term was coined by Amber A'Lee Frost and is associated with her essay "The Necessity of Political Vulgarity", published in ''Current Affairs'' in 2016. While the essay does not directly use the term ''dirtbag left'', it mounts a defense of politics that uses "vulgarity as a tool for fighting the powerful", citing ''libelles'' used to slander Marie Antoinette, '' Cohen v. California'', and N.W.A's protest song "Fuck tha Police", among others. Frost writes that vulgarity in itself is not "inherently subversive", but argues that the left must reclaim vulgarity "from the Trumps of the world", lest it be "handicapped by tsown civility." The dirtbag left is most closely associated with the Am ...
