The village lies at the end of the ''Dirdalen'' valley, which stretches to the southeast from Dirdal. The village of Gilja lies about into the valley. The village of Oltedal lies about west of Dirdal. Dirdal Church is located in the village. The ''Dirdalen'' valley is about long, following the Dirdalsåna river. The valley is connected to the neighboring valley of Frafjord by the Frafjord Tunnel which runs through the mountains and ends at the village of Gilja. History Prior to 1 January 1965, the village (and valley) were part of the municipality of Forsand. This area was moved to Gjesdal because there was no road connection from Dirdal to the rest of Forsand, but there was a road connection to the rest of Gjesdal. Dirdal Church
Dirdal Church ( no, Dirdal kirke) is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Gjesdal Municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the village of Dirdal. It is one of the three churches for the Gjesdal parish which is part of the Jæren prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Stavanger. The white, wooden church was built in a long church style in 1903 using designs by the architect Ola Knutson Moluf. The church seats about 175 people. History In 1889, the villagers of Dirdal received permission to build a cemetery for the residents of the area. Demand for a local church was growing due to the long distances the residents had to travel to get to the nearby Forsand Church. In 1903, the village received permission to build an annex chapel. The new chapel was designed by Ola Knutson Moluf who was from Frafjord. The chapel was consecrated on 9 December 1903. In 2005, the chapel was re-titled as Dirdal Church. Gjesdal is a municipality in Rogaland county, Norway. It is located in the traditional district of Jæren. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Ålgård. Other villages in Gjesdal include Dirdal, Frafjord, Gilja, Gjesdal, and Oltedal. The municipality lies about to the southwest of the city of Stavanger in southwestern Norway. Høgsfjorden
Høgsfjorden is a fjord in Rogaland county, Norway. It lies in the municipalities of Stavanger, Sandnes, Strand, and Gjesdal. The innermost part of the fjord is located at the village of Frafjord in the municipality of Gjesdal. It flows west to Dirdal and then heads northwards. At the village of Forsand, the Lysefjord branches off to the northeast.
