Dirck Gorisszen Storm (16301716) was an early colonial American who recorded the first official history of the Dutch community at Sleepy Hollow. His book ''Het Notite Boeck der Christelyckes Kercke op de Manner of Philips Burgh'' is a rare document of life in colonial times. Dirck Van Baburen
Dirck Jaspersz. van Baburen (c. 1595 – 21 February 1624) was a Dutch painter and one of the Utrecht Caravaggisti. Biography Dirck van Baburen was probably born in Wijk bij Duurstede, but his family moved to Utrecht when he was still young. He was also known as Teodoer van Baburen and Theodor Baburen. The earliest reference to the artist is in the 1611 records of the Utrecht Guild of St. Luke as a pupil of Paulus Moreelse. Sometime between 1612 and 1615, he travelled to Rome. There, he collaborated with fellow countryman David de Haen and befriended the close follower of Caravaggio, Bartolomeo Manfredi. Baburen also came to the attention of the art collectors and patrons Vincenzo Giustiniani and cardinal Scipione Borghese, and possibly under their influence he received the commission to paint the altarpiece of the ''Entombment'' for the chapel of the Pietà in San Pietro in Montorio around 1617. Early life Halstead was born in Huntington, New York, on December 24, 1936. His father, William S. Halstead, was an inventor in radio and television development. He held many patents for his pioneer work in radio and television, including stereophonic FM radio, and developing mountain-top relay systems that were key for building TV networks in Japan and Jordan. Dirck Tulp
Dirck or Diederik Tulp (1624–1682) was the son of the surgeon professor Nicolaes Tulp and involved in the Dutch East India Company and the Schutterij, Civic guard. Dirck Tulp visited Moscovia with his father-in-law; he was painted in 1653 by Paulus Potter. Life In 1647, Dirck accompanied Albert Burgh, son of a brewer and former mayor of Amsterdam, on his mission to Russia, to build up trade connections, especially in grain. Dirck Jansz Pesser (c. 1585 - buried September 3, 1651) was a Dutch brewer from Rotterdam, best known today for his portrait by Rembrandt. He was an important member of the Rotterdam Remonstrant community in the early 17th century. He was the son of the brewer Jan Dammasz Pesser, who had founded the brewery "De Witte Leeuw" (''The White Lion'') at the end of the 16th century at the Leuvehaven in Rotterdam. On December 18, 1612 Dirck married Haesje Jacobs van Cleyburg. Peter Dirck Keyser (February 8, 1835 – March 9, 1897) was a United States ophthalmologist. Biography Peter Dirck Keyser was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on February 8, 1835. Studies He studied at Delaware College until 1851, when he entered the chemical laboratory of Frederick A. Genth, and there made analyses of minerals, the results of which were published in the ''American Journal of Science'', and were afterward incorporated in Dana's ''Mineralogy''. In 1856 he went to Germany and pursued professional studies for two years. Civil War service Soon after the beginning of the Civil War he became captain in the 91st Pennsylvania Regiment, and served with the Army of the Potomac until after the Battle of Fair Oaks. Dirck Volckertszoon Coornhert (152229 October 1590), also known as Theodore Cornhert, was a Dutch writer, philosopher, translator, politician, theologian and artist.
