Dipolog City Council
The Dipolog City Council ( fil, Sangguniang Panlungsod ng Dipolog}) is Dipolog's Sangguniang Panlungsod or legislative body. The council has thirteen (13) members which is composed of ten (10) councilors, one (1) ''ex officio'' member elected from the ranks of barangay (neighborhood) chairmen, one (1) ''ex officio'' member elected from the ranks of Sangguniang Kabataan (youth council) chairmen and one (1) presiding officer. The Vice-mayor of the city is the presiding officer of the council, who is elected citywide. The council is responsible for creating laws and ordinances under the city's jurisdiction. The mayor can veto proposed bills, but the council can override it with a two-thirds supermajority. A supermajority, supra-majority, qualified majority, or special majority is a requirement for a proposal to gain a specified level of support which is greater than the threshold of more than one-half used for a simple majority. Zamboanga Del Norte Provincial Board
The Zamboanga del Norte Provincial Board is the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (provincial legislature) of the Philippine province of Zamboanga del Norte. The members are elected via plurality-at-large voting: the province is divided into three districts, the first district sending two members, and the second and third districts sending four members each to the provincial board; the number of candidates the electorate votes for and the number of winning candidates depends on the number of members their district sends. The vice governor is the ''ex officio'' presiding officer, and only votes to break ties. The vice governor is elected via the plurality voting system province-wide. Jacobo Amatong
Jacobo Sybico Amatong (October 11, 1936 – September 24, 1984) was a Filipino lawyer, politician, and newspaper publisher from the province of Zamboanga del Norte. He was best known for founding the Mindanao Observer, a community newspaper which became well-known for criticizing the martial law administration of Ferdinand Marcos, and for being assassinated by uniformed soldiers on September 24, 1984. Amatong is honored by having his name etched on the wall of remembrance at the Philippines' Bantayog ng mga Bayani, which honors the heroes and martyrs who fought the authoritarian regime. In 2018, Amatong was also identified by the Human Rights Victims' Claims Board as a Motu Proprio human rights violations victim of the Martial Law Era. Liga Ng Mga Barangay
The Liga ng mga Barangay sa Pilipinas (League of Barangays in the Philippines) and the Asosasyon ng mga Kapitan ng Barangay (Association of Barangay Captains) or ABC are formal organizations of all the barangays in the Philippines. Presently, almost 42,000 barangays are part of this organization, making it the association of Philippine local government units with the largest membership. Roseller Barinaga
Roseller "Matoy" Barinaga (born August 4, 1936) is a Filipino lawyer and politician from the province of Zamboanga del Norte. He previously served as Vice Mayor of Dipolog (1970–1978), Mayor of Dipolog (1978–1986; 1988–1998), member of the Philippine House of Representatives from the 2nd legislative district of Zamboanga del Norte from 1998 to 2007, and Undersecretary for Mindanao of the National Anti-Poverty Commission (2016–2018). Apart from his political career, Barinaga served as a professor and dean in Jose Rizal Memorial State University - Main Campus in Dapitan City. Political career Barinaga, then a vice mayor at that time, was appointed as city mayor by Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos in 1978. 2018 Philippine Barangay And Sangguniang Kabataan Elections
Barangay elections in the Philippines were held on May 14, 2018. The election shall elect the '' Punong Barangay'', more commonly known as barangay captains, and members of the ''Sangguniang Barangay'', or barangay council, in 41,948 barangays (villages) throughout the country whose terms start on June 30, 2018. Barangays are the smallest local government unit in the Philippines. Elections for the reformed Sangguniang Kabataan (SK; youth councils) will also be held at the same time. This shall be the first SK elections since 2010. Originally scheduled for October 2016, these elections supposedly concluded the 2016 election cycle that started in May with the election of the Philippine president, the members of Philippine Congress and provincial, city and municipal officials.
