Diouloulou
Diouloulou is a small town and commune in the Bignona Department of the Ziguinchor Region Ziguinchor is a region of Senegal (regional capitals have the same name as their respective regions). The region is also referred to historically and popularly as Basse Casamance , settlement_type = Geographical region , image_skylin ... of southwestern Senegal. In 2002, the town had a population of 2,725 people. Diouloulou, a quiet, unremarkable town, lies along the N5 road. There is a small church, Eglise de Diouloulou, in the southern outskirts of the town, and a campement at Auberge Myriam. History In April 2002, an MFDC splinter group, the North Front, led by Kamouguc Diatta, carried out an attack on the town, a month after assaulting Kafountine. On December 20, 2005, armed gunmen assassinated Cherif Samsidine Nema Aidara, a government ambassador to the Casamance peace process, at his home in the town. Bignona Department is one of the three departments in the Ziguinchor Region of Senegal. N5 Road (Senegal)
The N5 road is one of the 7 national roads of Senegal. It connects the centre of Senegal to Basse Casamance in the south by a route which traverses the Gambia at the mouth of the River Gambia. The road runs in a south-westerly direction from its junction with the N4 road at Kaolack via Sokone to the mouth of the River Gambia, where there is a ferry crossing to Banjul. From Banjul the road runs south-eastwards via Diouloulou to reconnect with the N4 at Bignona. The Movement of Democratic Forces of Casamance (french: Mouvement des forces démocratiques de Casamance; MFDC) is the main separatist movement in the Casamance region of Senegal, founded in 1982. It was supported by Guinea-Bissau President João Bernardo Vieira until he was overthrown in 1999. It relies mainly on the Jola people. Its armed wing was formed in 1985 and is called Atika (Diola for "the combatant"). Its leader was Father Augustin Diamacoune Senghor, who died on 13 January 2007. Senghor signed a peace agreement with the government of Senegalese President Abdoulaye Wade in 2004.
