Dionysius Kfoury
Dionysius Kfoury, BS (5 December 1879 in Khonsarah, Syria – 11 March 1965) was a bishop of the Patriarchal Vicariate of Egypt and Sudan. Life Dionysius Kfoury was on August 6, 1904 ordained to the priesthood. On 9 December 1926, he was appointed Auxiliary Bishop of Antioch, and on the same day as the Titular Archbishop. On 20 June 1927 Kfoury was named Titular Archbishop of Tarsus of Greek Melkites. Cyril IX Moghabghab
Cyril IX Moghabghab (October 29, 1855 in Ain Zhalta, Ottoman Syria – September 8, 1947 in Alexandria, Egypt) served as Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, and Alexandria and Jerusalem of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church from 1925 to 1947. Life Patriarch Cyril was born in Ain Zhalta, Lebanon on October 29, 1855. He was ordained a priest on March 27, 1883. Later, on April 23, 1899, he was elected eparch of Zahlé, Lebanon, confirmed on May 20, 1899 and consecrated eparch on May 28 of the same year by patriarch Peter IV Geraigiry. He was one of the first Melkite bishops to visit the Americas when, in 1904, he came to Brazil. He succeeded Demetrius I Qadi as patriarch of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church on December 8, 1925 and the Pope accepted his request for ecclesiastical communion on June 21, 1926. Anthony Farage
Anthony Farage (28 December 1885 in Damascus – 9 November 1963), also Anthony Faraj, was titular archbishop and Patriarchal vicar of the Patriarchal vicariate of Egypt and Sudan. Life Anthony Farage was ordained to the priesthood on 20 July 1908. On 1 January 1922 he was appointed and consecrated bishop on the same day. His consecrator was the Patriarch of Antioch Archbishop Demetrius I Qadi. Elias Zoghby (January 9, 1912 – January 16, 2008) was the Melkite Greek Catholic Archbishop of Baalbek and a leading advocate of Catholic-Orthodox ecumenism. Melkite Greek Catholic Bishops
The term Melkite (), also written Melchite, refers to various Eastern Christian churches of the Byzantine Rite and their members originating in the Middle East. The term comes from the common Central Semitic root ''m-l-k'', meaning "royal", and by extension "imperial" or loyal to the Byzantine Emperor. The term acquired religious connotations as denominational designation for those Christians who accepted imperial religious policies, based on Christological resolutions of the Council of Chalcedon (451). Originally, during the Early Middle Ages, Melkites used both Greek and Aramaic language in their religious life, and initially employed the Antiochian rite in their liturgy, but later (10th-11th century) accepted Constantinopolitan rite, and incorporated Arabic in parts of their liturgical practices.
