Dionis De Lys
Dionis de Lys or Lis (born-16th century) was a Flemish conquistador in the service of the Spanish monarchy. He attended the first foundation of Buenos Aires by Pedro de Mendoza. Biography Dionis was born in Lys, County of Flanders, the son of Johannes de Lys and Barboxa de Leys. He had arrived to the Río de la Plata in the expedition of Pedro de Mendoza, together with a contingents of Flemish adventurers. Lys (department)
Lys (, nl, Leie) was a department of the French First Republic and French First Empire in present-day Belgium. It was named after the river Lys (Leie). It was created on 1 October 1795, when the Austrian Netherlands and the Prince-Bishopric of Liège were officially annexed by the French Republic. Prior to this annexation, its territory was part of the County of Flanders. Its Chef-lieu was Bruges. Luis Alegre
Luis Alegre (c. 1510 – 1573) was a Flemish soldier, in the service of the Spanish Crown, who served as conquistador and expeditionary of the Río de la Plata and Paraguay. Biography He arrived at the Río de la Plata in the expedition of Pedro de Mendoza in 1534, and later to Asunción, aboard the ship "La Marañona" in 1538. He changed his original last name "Plesier" to Alegre, and attended the election of Domingo Martinez de Irala as Lieutenant Governor of Paraguay in 1539. He had an active participation in the Conquest of Paraguay, receiving parcels of land, in addition to the distributions of various indigenous tribes as encomiendas for their services to the Crown. Pedro de Mendoza () (c. 1499 – June 23, 1537) was a Spanish ''conquistador'', soldier and explorer, and the first ''adelantado'' of New Andalusia. Setting sail Pedro de Mendoza was born in Guadix, Grenada, part of a large noble family that was preeminent in Spain. His family settled in Guadix after its reconquest by the Christians in 1489. He was a page at the Spanish court of Emperor Charles V and accompanied the sovereign on his trip to England.
