Diogo Tomas
Diogo Alberto Soares Tomas (born 31 July 1997) is a Finnish professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Veikkausliiga club HJK and the Finland national team. Early and personal life Tomas was born in Oulu to a Finnish mother and Portuguese father, and was raised in Tampere. Club career Tomas started football in the youth sector of local club Ilves. After debuting in top-tier Veikkausliiga with Ilves first team in 2015, he spent a brief loan spell with Mikkelin Palloilijat (MP) in the third-tier Kakkonen in early 2016. He made a further three appearances in the league after his return to Ilves, and joined FC Haka for the 2017, competing in second tier Ykkönen. Tomas returned to Ilves at the start of 2018, and eventually spent three seasons with the club. Joona Toivio (born 10 March 1988) is a Finnish footballer who plays as a defender for Veikkausliiga club HJK. He has previously played for Klubi 04, AZ, Telstar, Molde, Djurgården, and Termalica Nieciecza. Club career Early career Earlier in his career, he was training with HJK's first team before he had a trial at Manchester United. Though this proved unsuccessful, he later signed for AZ. 2024 Veikkausliiga
The 2024 Veikkausliiga is the 94th season of top-tier football in Finland, which takes place from April to November. Veikkaus was the league's sponsor. Teams The league consisted of twelve teams; ten teams remaining from the previous season, and two teams promoted from the Ykkönen. HJK entered the season as defending champions. EIF were promoted as champions of the 2023 Ykkönen (returning to the top flight after a 90-year absence), replacing the bottom-placed 2023 Veikkausliiga team ( KTP, relegated after a single-year stint in top flight). KuPS
Kuopion Palloseura (or KuPS) is a Finnish football club, based in the ninth most populated city of Finland, Kuopio. KuPS plays in Finland's Premier League, Veikkausliiga. KuPS has won the Finnish championship six times, the Finnish Cup 4 times and the Finnish League Cup once. KuPS also holds the Finnish club record of the most consecutive seasons in the top flight, from 1949 to 1992. The team is placed fourth in the all-time Finnish Premier League honour table. 2019 Finnish Cup
The 2019 Finnish Cup was the 65th season of the Finnish Cup football competition. Until the 2017–2018 season, the tournament was held in the autumn-spring schedule from July to September of the following year. The introduction of this new format of the contest meant that the League Cup was suspended. The winner of the Finnish Cup qualifies for the 2020–21 UEFA Europa League. The 2018 Veikkausliiga was the 88th season of top-tier football in Finland. HJK were the defending champions. Fixtures for the 2018 season were announced on 17 January 2017. The season started on 7 April 2018 and ended on 27 October 2018. Teams JJK were relegated to Ykkönen after finishing at the bottom of the 2017 season. Their place was taken by Ykkönen champions TPS. HIFK as 11th-placed team lost their Veikkausliiga spot after losing to second-placed Ykkönen team FC Honka in a relegation/promotion playoff.
