Roskilde Cathedral
Roskilde Cathedral ( da, Roskilde Domkirke), in the city of Roskilde on the island of Zealand (Denmark), Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark, is a cathedral of the Lutheranism, Lutheran Church of Denmark. The cathedral is the most important church in Denmark, the official royal burial church of the Danish monarchs, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is due to two criteria: the architecture of the cathedral shows 800 years of European architectural styles, and it is one of the earliest examples in Scandinavia of a Gothic architecture, Gothic cathedral to be built in brick; it encouraged the spread of the Brick Gothic style throughout Northern Europe. The former Diocese of Roskilde () was a diocese within the Roman-Catholic Church which was established in Denmark some time before 1022. The diocese was dissolved with the Reformation of Denmark and replaced by the Protestant Diocese of Zealand in 1537. History The episcopal see of the Bishop was Roskilde Cathedral but from 1167, when Bishop Absalon completed a new bishop's palace known as Absalon's Castle on the small island of Slotsholmen, he resided at the small town of ''Havn'', which later became the present Danish capital Copenhagen. Peter Fischer-Møller
Peter Fischer-Møller (born 29 June 1955 in Charlottenlund) is a Danish prelate who served as the Bishop of Roskilde from 2008 until 2022. Education Fischer-Møller became a student in 1973 at Øregaard Gymnasium, and studied mathematical-physical.. He went to Oxford to study English literature . Although Fischer-Møller was to be a lawyer as his father wished, he chose to become a theology student at the University of Copenhagen. In the summer of 1983, he completed his studies. Peter Fischer-Møller gained a cand.theol. specializing in N. F. S. Grundtvig. Priesthood In 1984 Peter Fischer-Møller was ordained as priest and became the parish priest of Terslev and Ørslev Sogne north of Haslev. In 1999 he also became the parish priest of Ringsted-Sorø. At the same time, Fischer-Møller worked as a lecturer at Haslev Seminary and Preschool. Jan Lindhardt
Jan Lindhardt (24 April 1938, in Copenhagen – 11 November 2014) was a Danish theologian and writer. He was the son of professor Dr Poul Georg Lindhardt and Gerda Winding, and the elder brother of the Rev Mogens Lindhardt. His nephew is actor Thure Lindhardt. He was married to Tine Lindhardt, Bishop of Funen from 2012 until his death. He graduated with a doctorate in theology from Copenhagen University in 1962, and served as Bishop of Roskilde Diocese from 1997–2008. Death Jan Lindhardt died on 11 November 2014 from Alzheimer's disease. Opinions Lindhardt often commented publicly on developments in the Lutheran Danish state church. Along with Jacob Holm, of the church Fredenskirken in Viby J, he held the opinion that Hell in the traditional concept does not exist, and that the Danish National Church's concept should instead regard a more universalist doctrine. The Bishop of Copenhagen is currently Peter Skov-Jakobsen, who replaced Erik Normann Svendsen in 2009. The Diocese of Zealand (Danish: ''Sjællands Stift'') was a protestant diocese in Denmark that existed from 1537 to 1922. The diocese had been formed in 1537 following the Reformation of Denmark, and was dissolved in 1922 when it was divided into the Diocese of Copenhagen and the Diocese of Roskilde.
