The Cathedral of San Juan de Albacete ( es, Catedral de San Juan de Albacete) is a Roman Catholic church located in Albacete, Spain. It was declared ''Bien de Interés Cultural'' in 1982. History The church of San Juan was constructed in 1515 in place of a Mudéjar edifice. At this time, Albacete belonged to the Diocese of Cartagena. In the 16th century the previous Gothic vaults were demolished and replaced with the current Baroque ones. In 1936, during the Spanish Civil War its bells were melted down only to be replaced in 1947 by its current bells. Francisco Cases Andreu Born Orihuela, Spain on 23 October 1944 is a retired Spanish Roman Catholic prelate. He is bishop emeritus of the Diocese of Canarias in the Canary Islands (covering the islands of Gran Canaria, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura). Previously he served as Auxiliary bishop of Orihuela and titular bishop of Timici and as the ordinary of Albacete. Biography Cases was born in Orihuela, Spain on 23 October 1944, he studied for the priesthood in the Seminario de San Miguel, in Orihuela. being ordained on 14 April 1968. Pope John Paul II appointed him auxiliary bishop of Orihuela and titular bishop of Timici (Algeria), he was consecrated on 10 April 1994 by Archbishop Mario Tagliaferri. He was subsequently appointed bishop of Albacete on 31 August 1996 and of Canarias on 26 November 2005 by Pope Benedict XVI. Victorio Oliver Domingo
Victorio (Bidu-ya, Beduiat; ca. 1825–October 14, 1880) was a warrior and chief of the Warm Springs band of the Tchihendeh (or Chihenne, often called Mimbreño) division of the central Apaches in what is now the American states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, and the Mexican states of Sonora and Chihuahua. In Victorio's War from September 1879 to October 1880, Victorio led a band of Apaches, never numbering more than 200 men, in a running battle with the U.S. and Mexican armies and the civilian population of New Mexico, Texas, and northern Mexico, fighting two dozen skirmishes and battles. He and most of his followers were killed or captured by the Mexican army in the Battle of Tres Castillos in October 1880. War leader and chief Victorio grew up in the Chihenne band. There is speculation that he or his band had Navajo kinship ties and was known among the Navajo as "he who checks his horse". Ireneo García Alonso (25 March 1923 – 4 June 2012) was a Spanish prelate of the Catholic Church. García Alonso was born in Quintanilla Vivar, Spain and ordained a priest on 27 March 1948. García Alonso was appointed bishop of the Diocese of Albacete on 7 December 1968 and ordained a bishop on 25 January 1969. He resigned as bishop of Albacete on 4 August 1980. He died in Toledo on 4 June 2012, aged 89.
