Diocese Of Truro
The Diocese of Truro (established 1876) is a Church of England diocese in the Province of Canterbury which covers Cornwall, the Isles of Scilly and a small part of Devon. The bishop's seat is at Truro Cathedral. Geography and history The diocese's area is that of the county of Cornwall, including the Isles of Scilly, as well as two parishes in neighbouring Devon ( St Giles on the Heath and Virginstow). It was formed on 15 December 1876 from the Archdeaconry of Cornwall in the Diocese of Exeter. It is, therefore, one of the younger dioceses. The Christian faith, however, has been present in the region since at least the 4th century – more than 100 years before there was an Archbishop of Canterbury. Many of the communities in the diocese, as well as the parish churches, bear a Celtic saint's name, which is a reminder of the links with other Celtic lands, especially Ireland, Wales and Brittany. The Province of Canterbury, or less formally the Southern Province, is one of two ecclesiastical provinces which constitute the Church of England. The other is the Province of York (which consists of 12 dioceses). The Archdeacon of Cornwall is a senior cleric in the Church of England Diocese of Truro. History and composition The archdeaconry of Cornwall was created in the Diocese of Exeter in the late 11th century. The area and the archdeacon remained part of that diocese until 15 December 1876 when the Diocese of Truro was established. The archdeaconry was then divided on 21 May 1878 to create the new Archdeaconry of Bodmin. John Ford (bishop)
John Frank Ford (born 14 January 1952) is a retired British Anglican bishop. From 2013 to 2019 he was the Bishop of The Murray in the Anglican Church of Australia. From 2005 to 2013, he was the Bishop of Plymouth, a suffragan see in the Diocese of Exeter, England. Early life Ford was educated at the Southampton College of Technology. From 1976 to 1979, he studied for ordination at Chichester Theological College. Ordained ministry Ford was ordained in the Church of England as a deacon in 1979 and as a priest in 1980. He began his career with a curacy at Christ Church, Forest Hill after which he was Vicar of St Augustine's Lee and then domestic chaplain to the Bishop of Horsham. The Anglican Bishop of Plymouth is an episcopal title used by a suffragan bishop of the Church of England Diocese of Exeter, in the Province of Canterbury, England. The Bishop of Ebbsfleet is a suffragan bishop who fulfils the role of a provincial episcopal visitor in the Church of England. From its creation in 1994 to 2022, the Bishop of Ebbsfleet served traditionist Anglo-Catholic parishes that could not accept the ordination of women as priests and bishops. From 2023, the bishop will serve conservative evangelical parishes that reject the ordination and/or leadership of women due to complementarian beliefs. A provincial episcopal visitor (PEV), popularly known as a flying bishop, is a Church of England bishop assigned to minister to many of the clergy, laity and parishes who on grounds of theological conviction, "are unable to receive the ministry of women bishops or priests". William Quinlan Lash
William Quinlan Lash was the Bishop of Bombay from 1947 to 1961. Lash was born on 5 February 1905 and educated at Tonbridge School and Emmanuel College, Cambridge. Ordained in 1929 his first post was as a curate at St Mary's Portsea, Portsmouth. He then emigrated to India, where he was Vicar of Poona until his ordination to the episcopate. John Wellington
The Right Reverend John Wellington was an Anglican missionary bishop in China during the first half of the 20th century. Born into an ecclesiastical family on 28 December 1889, he was the son of the Reverend G. Wellington. Educated at Queen Elizabeth's Grammar School, Wimborne and at Salisbury Theological College, he was ordained in 1913. He served as curate at St Martin's, Salisbury before heading to China as a missionary. He was in Shantung until 1935 when he returned to England as Vicar of Holy Trinity, Bedford. From 1940 to 1950 he served as the last Anglican Bishop of Shantung (before the Church was nationalised by the Communists). During the Second World War, he was interned by Japanese in China, and released in 1945.
