Diocese Of Lagos West
The Diocese of Lagos West is one of the 13 dioceses of the Anglican Province of Lagos, in the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion). It comprises 29 archdeaconries. The diocese's cathedral is Archbishop Vining Memorial Church Cathedral, in Ikeja. The diocese was inaugurated at 20 November 1999. The first bishop was the Right Reverend Dr. Peter Awelewa Adebiyi, who served as bishop from the diocese's creation in 2000 until 2013. The current bishop is the Right Reverend Dr. James Odedeji. Ikeja
Ikeja is the capital city of Lagos State in southwestern Nigeria. Its population, as of the 2006 census, is 313,196. James Odedeji
James Olusola Odedeji is an Anglican bishop in Nigeria. Odedeji was born in 1969 in Osun State. He was educated at Lagos State University; and ordained deacon in 1993, priest in 1994. After a curacy at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church, Ikeja he served incumbencies at Isheri, Akesan and Oshodi as the Vicar. He also served as Curate from 1997 to 2003 at Archbishop Vining Memorial Church which later became the cathedral. Agege
Agege is a suburb and local government area in the Ikeja Division of Lagos State, Nigeria. Etymology When the kolanut plantations in the Agege area started to flourish it attracted huge settlements. Agege experienced rapid development and became a powerful center of the kolanut trade. These settlements attracted different people of different backgrounds and interests such as laborers, and most of these were Hausa. Whenever the Yorubas needed labourers for jobs such as cutting of trees, they would engage the services of the Hausa people. Because of this work the immediate area where the Hausas lived was named ‘Ilu Awon Ageigi’ which translates as ‘Town (Ilu) of the tree cutters’. The name Agege was thus formed out of the word Ageigi. Amuwo-Odofin is a local government area (LGA) in the Badagry Division, Lagos State, Nigeria. Amuwo Odofin LGA is divided into Oriade and Amuwo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) with 7 wards each; Abule-osun, Agboju, Ibeshe, Ijegun, Irede, Kirikir and Kuje wards constitute Oriade LCDA and Ado-soba, Ekoakete, Ifelodun, Ilado Tamaro, Irepodun, Odofin and Orire wards comprising Amuwo LCDA.
