The Roman Catholic Diocese of Huaraz is a diocese of the Latin Rite of the Roman Catholic Church in Peru. Erected in 1899, the diocese is a suffragan of the Archdiocese of Trujillo The current bishop is José Eduardo Velásquez Tarazona, appointed in Feb. 2004. History On 15 May 1899 Pope Leo XIII established the Diocese of Huaraz with territory taken from the Archdiocese of Lima. It lost territory when the Territorial Prelature of Huarí was established in 1958. The Order of Friars Minor (also called the Franciscans, the Franciscan Order, or the Seraphic Order; postnominal abbreviation OFM) is a mendicant Catholic religious order, founded in 1209 by Francis of Assisi.
