Dinwoodie Railway Station
Dinwoodie railway station was a station which served the rural area around the settlement of Dinwoodie, 6 miles north of Lockerbie in Applegarth parish, Scottish county of Dumfries and Galloway. It was served by local trains on what is now known as the West Coast Main Line. The nearest station for Dinwoodie is now at Lockerbie. History Opened by the Caledonian Railway on 10 September 1847, or 15 February 1848 is another suggested opening date for the station. It became part of the London Midland and Scottish Railway during the Grouping of 1923 and was then closed by British Railways in 1960. Dinwoodie derailment On 25 October 1928 an accident took place in LMS days near Dinwoodie due to signaller error and fatigue which resulted in a collision from the rear involving two trains. Caledonian Railway Main Line
The Caledonian Railway main line in Scotland connected Glasgow and Edinburgh with Carlisle, via Carstairs and Beattock. It was opened in 1847 by the Caledonian Railway. The approach to Glasgow used railways already built, primarily for mineral traffic; these were later by-passed by a more direct route. Today, the route forms the northern section of the West Coast Main Line, and was electrified in the early 1970s. Stanwix
Stanwix is a district of Carlisle, Cumbria in North West England. The ward population (called Stanwix Urban) had a population taken at the 2011 census of 5,934. It is located on the north side of River Eden, across from Carlisle city centre. Although long counted as a suburb it did not officially become part of the city until 1912 when part of the civil parish of Stanwix became part of the parish, city and municipal borough of Carlisle. Royal Highlander
The ''Royal Highlander'' was a named passenger train travelling between London, England and Aberdeen, Scotland from 1927. Later it served Inverness, Scotland until it was withdrawn in May 1988. Shortly after its introduction, on 4 October 1927 a serious derailment occurred on Logie Viaduct near Aberdeen when the second engine left the rails and the coaches behind also derailed and smashed the parapet. Fortunately, the train did not fall off the viaduct. In its winter working it started from Euston with three pairs of sleeping cars, 1st and 3rd class, for Inverness, Aberdeen and Perth, with composite coaches and brake coaches for each destination.
