Dinsmore Township is one of the fourteen townships of Shelby County, Ohio, United States. The 2000 census found 3,357 people in the township, 1,371 of whom lived in the unincorporated portions of the township. Geography Located in the northern part of the county, it borders the following townships: * Pusheta Township, Auglaize County - north * Clay Township, Auglaize County - northeast corner * Jackson Township - east * Franklin Township - south * Van Buren Township - west * Washington Township, Auglaize County - northwest corner Two villages are located in Dinsmore Township: part of Anna in the south, and Botkins in the north and center. Botkins, Ohio
Botkins is a village in Shelby County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,155 at the 2010 census. Botkins is located alongside Interstate 75 at Exit 104. Botkins is at the northern edge of Shelby County, immediately south of its border with Auglaize County. It also lies at the northern edge of the 937 area code. Botkins High School boys basketball team won their school’s first ever state title in the schools history in 2021. History Botkins was platted in 1858, and named for Richard Botkin, the original owner of the town site. A post office called Botkins has been in operation since 1877. Anna is a village in Shelby County, Ohio, United States. The population was 1,567 at the 2010 census. History Pre-historical period The prehistoric Teays River ran through modern-day Anna about 2 million years ago. The Teays river deposited loose sediment on the Greenville fault line which created a major earthquake center. Native American period According to the Native Americans, Tecumseh tried to start his alliances in what is now Anna. Most native Shawnee and Miami tribes refused the offer. He supposedly put a curse on the land. The curse stated that the land would be ever plagued with the trembling of the earth. Settlement The first white settlement at Anna was made in the 1830s.
