Dinkar Kaushik
Dinkar Kowshik (1918-2011) was an Indian painter. As principal of Kala Bhavana at Santiniketan, he reshaped it for contemporary art practices. Born in Dharawad, now in Karnataka, in 1918, he was involved in the Quit India Movement during his student days and had been arrested several times. He was a student of Kala Bhavana between 1940 and 1946. He started his working life at Delhi Polytechnic and went to become principal of Lucknow College of Arts and Crafts. Thereafter, he returned to Kala Bhavana first as a professor and later as its principal. He retired in 1978 and settled down in Santiniketan. At Santiniketan, the ideas of Rabindranath Tagore on art and teaching continued for a long time as a monumental model. Subsequently, there developed in the art arena of Santikietan the three pillars of ideas – Nandalal Bose, Benode Behari Mukherjee and Ramkinkar Baij. Dharwad (), also known as Dharwar, is a city located in the north western part of the Indian state of Karnataka. Ramkinkar Baij
Ramkinkar Baij ( bn, রামকিঙ্কর বেইজ) (25 May 1906 – 2 August 1980) was an Indian sculptor and painter, one of the pioneers of modern Indian sculpture and a key figure of Contextual Modernism. Early life and career Baij was born in an economically modest family in the Bankura district of the modern state of West Bengal in India. In that sense, he was a Bengali, not an Adivasi, as many people usually think. The surname Baij derived from Boidda (Baidya) and Boijo consequently. His family surname was Poramanik and was abandoned by him in early 1925. Sarbari Roy Choudhury
Sarbari Roy Chowdhury (21 January 1933 – 21 February 2012), was an Indian artist. Biography Chowdhury was born in Ulpur, East Bengal (now Bangladesh) into a Zamindari family, and graduated from the Government College of Art and Craft, Kolkata, in 1956. He later studied under the sculptors Prodosh Dasgupta and Sankho Chaudhuri at the M.S. University, Baroda. Between 1960 and 1962, he served as the Head of the Department of Sculpture at the Indian Art College, Kolkata. He spent most of his professional life at Kala Bhavana, Visva Bharati at Santiniketan. He joined the Kala Bhavana faculty in 1969 and remained there until his retirement in 1997. Somnath Hore
Somnath Hore (1921-2006) was an Indian sculptor and printmaker. His sketches, sculptures and prints were a reaction to major historical crises and events of 20th century Bengal, such as the Bengal Famine of 1943 and the Tebhaga movement. He was a recipient of the Indian civilian honour of the Padma Bhushan. Early life Somnath Hore was born in 1921 in Chittagong, now in Bangladesh. Benode Behari Mukherjee
Benode Behari Mukherjee (7 February 1904 – 11 November 1980) was an Indian artist from West Bengal state. Mukherjee was one of the pioneers of Indian modern art and a key figure of Contextual Modernism. He was one of the earliest artists in modern India to take up to murals as a mode of artistic expression. All his murals depict a subtle understanding of environmental through pioneering architectural nuances. Nandalal Bose
Nandalal Bose (3 December 1882 – 16 April 1966) was one of the pioneers of modern Indian art and a key figure of Contextual Modernism.
