Dillon (surname)
Dillon is an Irish surname of Breton origin, descending from a cadet branch of Viscomte de Leon in Northern Brittany. It first appeared in Ireland with the arrival of Sir Henry de Leon, Prince John's secretary in 1185. Sir Henry married Maud de Courcy, daughter of Sir John de Courcy and Affrica Guðrøðardóttir. Awarded large tracts of land by in Meath and Westmeath, one of the Dillons’ first Mott & Baileys can still be found at Dunnamona before the establishment of stone structures such as Portlick Castle. The name evolved into the Irish-language "Diolun"/English-language "Dillon" (not to be confused with the Welsh given name Dylan). It is particularly common in the Meath and Westmeath counties of Ireland where the Dillons were granted vast areas of land. The name is widespread throughout Ireland. Sir George Brian Hugh Dillon (2 October 1925 – 22 June 2003) was a British lawyer and judge who served as a Lord Justice of Appeal from 1982 to 1994. Biography Dillon was born in a naval family, the son of Captain George Crozier Dillon, RN, and the grandson of an admiral. He was educated at Winchester College, where he was a scholar, before proceeding to New College, Oxford, also as a scholar. Initially reading Classics, he switched to law, before joining the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve in 1943, training at HMS ''Ganges'' before serving in the Far East abroad the destroyer HMS ''Tyrian''. Returning to Oxford after the war, he was called to the bar by Lincoln's Inn in 1948, and acquired a "huge practice" at the Chancery bar. He took silk in 1965 and became head of chambers. Brian Dillon
Brian Dillon (also spelled Bryan Dillon) (1830 – 17 August 1872) was an Ireland, Irish Irish republicanism, republican leader and a member of the Irish Republican Brotherhood. He was a central figure in the Cork (city), Cork Fenian movement. After being arrested in 1865 for felony treason, he was found guilty and sentenced to ten years' penal servitude. Because of poor health condition, he was given amnesty after four and a half years. He returned to Cork and was welcomed enthusiastically but died eighteen months later. Brandon Dillon (born April 30, 1997) is an American football tight end for the Vegas Vipers of the XFL. He played college football for Marian University. Early life and high school Dillon grew up in Bringhurst, Indiana and attended Carroll High School in nearby Flora, Indiana, where he played baseball, basketball, and football. Brandon Dillon (born April 27, 1972) is an American politician. He is the former Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party. Early life and education Dillon is a graduate of Catholic Central High School (1990), Grand Rapids Community College (1993), and Aquinas College (1996). Career Dillon was elected Chair of the Michigan Democratic Party in July 2015 after partnering with former Oakland County, Michigan Deputy Clerk Lavora Barnes to run as a team. In 2010, he was a Kent County Commissioner. From 2011 to 2015, Dillon was a Democratic member of the Michigan House of Representatives. Bobby Dillon
Bobby Dan Dillon (February 23, 1930 – August 22, 2019) was an American professional football player in the National Football League (NFL). He played as a safety and spent his entire eight-year career with the Green Bay Packers. Dillon was an All-American with the University of Texas Longhorns. Although he was a safety, he also returned kicks and played several games at halfback. He finished his college career with 13 interceptions on defense, one touchdown as a halfback, and multiple kick returns for touchdowns. He was drafted by the Green Bay Packers in the 3rd round (28th pick) of the 1952 NFL draft. After multiple accidents during his childhood, Dillon lost one of his eyes and played his entire career with a glass eye. Born at Caherina in Tralee, he joined his older brother Joe in 1901, both of them being apprentice jockeys at the famous Druids Lodge training establishment in Wiltshire England.
