Dikoleps Pruinosa
''Dikoleps pruinosa'' is a minute species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Skeneidae. Description (Original description by Chaster) The height of the shell attains 1 mm, its diameter 0.6 mm. The shell has a subglobose shape. It is whitish in colour, dull and frosted in appearance, owing to the entire surface being covered with very numerous, fine, close -set, flexuous striae following the direction of the lines of growth. On the umbilical area and adjoining part of the base there are also numerous, much stronger spiral lines, finely granulated by the striae just described. The 2½ whorls are convex. The suture is very distinct though not deep. The spire is a little raised. The aperture is nearly circular. The outer lip is thin, presenting two shallow sinuations, one at the periphery and one below. The umbilicus is rather large. The operculum like that of ''Dikoleps nitens''. Distribution This species occurs in the Mediterranean Sea The Med ...

Skeneidae
The Skeneidae are a speciose family of minute to small marine gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Trochoidea.Bouchet, P.; Gofas, S. (2013). Skeneidae. Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=558146 on 2013-09-30 The former subfamily Skeneinae (in the family Turbinidae) was loosely defined. Information on the specific characters of this family are incompletely described. Recent molecular evidence suggests that a number of these genera in Skeneinae probably belong to other families altogether, so many of these assignments must be regarded as provisional. Williams noted in 2012 that "this group is in a desperate need of revision". The subfamily Skeneidae has been upgraded to the status of family Skeneidae, comprising most genera formerly in the subfamily Skeneinae. But even then, the family Skeneidae represents a polyphyletic, “skeneimorph” assemblage. It should be pruned of many genera which would go to the ...

Family (biology)
Family ( la, familia, plural ') is one of the eight major hierarchical taxonomic ranks in Linnaean taxonomy. It is classified between order and genus. A family may be divided into subfamilies, which are intermediate ranks between the ranks of family and genus. The official family names are Latin in origin; however, popular names are often used: for example, walnut trees and hickory trees belong to the family Juglandaceae, but that family is commonly referred to as the "walnut family". What belongs to a family—or if a described family should be recognized at all—are proposed and determined by practicing taxonomists. There are no hard rules for describing or recognizing a family, but in plants, they can be characterized on the basis of both vegetative and reproductive features of plant species. Taxonomists often take different positions about descriptions, and there may be no broad consensus across the scientific community for some time. The publishing of new data and opini ...

Lip (gastropod)
In the shell of gastropod mollusks (a snail shell), the lip is the free margin of the peristome (synonym: peritreme) or aperture (the opening) of the gastropod shell. In dextral (right-handed) shells (most snail shells are right-handed), the right side or outer side of the aperture is known as the outer lip (''labrum''). The left side of the aperture is known as the inner lip or columellar lip (''labium'') if there is a pronounced lip there. In those species where there is no pronounced lip, the part of the body whorl that adjoins the aperture is known as the parietal wall. The outer lip is usually thin and sharp in immature shells, and in some adults (e.g. the land snails ''Helicella'' and '' Bulimulus''). However, in some other land snails and in many marine species the outer lip is ''thickened'' (also called ''callused''), or ''reflected'' (turned outwards). In some other marine species it is curled inwards (''inflected''), as in the cowries such as ''Cypraea''. It can also be ...
