Diriye Osman
Diriye Osman ( so, Diriyeh Cismaan, ar, ديري عثمان) (born in 1983) is a Somali-British short story writer, essayist, critic and visual artist. He is the author of the short story collection ''Fairytales For Lost Children'', which won the 2014 Polari First Book Prize. His writing has also been published in varied publications. Additionally, Osman's visual art is known for its surrealism. Biography Osman was born in 1983 in Mogadishu, Somalia. When the civil war broke out in the early 1990s, he and his family relocated to Nairobi, Kenya. As a child, Osman developed an interest in fashion design. His parents encouraged his desire to become a designer. An avid reader, he was also enthralled with the works of C. S. Lewis and Roald Dahl, as well as ''The Adventures of Tintin'' and ''Calvin and Hobbes''. In 2001, Osman and his family moved again to London, England. Abdillahi Diiriye Guled
Abdillahi Diiriye Guled also known as Arale/Caraale ( so, Cabdillaahi Diiriye Guuleed) is a Somali literary scholar, Prosodist and is credited with the discovery of the Somali Scansion system. Biography and career Arale was the son of Aw Diiriye Guled, a famed poet who participated in the ''Silsilada Xaydha'' serial poems and who founded the town of Gashamo. Arale studied and majored in English at the Somali National University.While working as an English teacher, in his free time he studied Somali scansion. He also contributed to the Somali curriculum by writing the first Somali text books for the first generation of primary and secondary students that were to be taught in Somali, as opposed to English or Arabic. In 1978 he became a lecturer in the Somali department of language and literature of the Somali National university. Las Anod
Las Anod ( so, Laascaanood; ar, لاسعانود) is the administrative capital of the Sool region of Somaliland. Territorial dispute The city is disputed by Puntland and Somaliland. The former bases its claim due to the kinship ties between the Dhulbahante clan and the dominant clan in Puntland, the Majeerteen, whilst the latter's claim is grounded on the border of the former British Somaliland Protectorate. The city was the proclaimed capital of Khatumo State throughout its existence until its dissolvement in 2017. Somaliland forces captured the city in the Battle of Las Anod in 2007, ousting Puntland forces, and has maintained full control of the city in all aspects since. Asha Gelle Dirie
Asha Gelle Dirie ( so, Caasha Geelle Diriye, ar, آشا جيلي ديري) is a Somali politician and civil society activist. From 2005 to 2012, she served as the Minister of Women Development and Family Affairs of the autonomous Puntland regional state in northeastern Somalia. Dirie is also the founder and Executive Director of The Asha Gelle Foundation (TAG Foundation). Additionally, she served as the Chairperson of the federal Constitutional Review and Implementation Commission between 2014 and 2015. Personal life Dirie was born in 1966 in Galkayo, the capital of the north-central Mudug region of Somalia. She hails from the Maxamuud Saleebaan sub-clan of the Majeerteen Harti Darod.
