Digiweb is a telecommunications company in Ireland, supplying business and consumer broadband and web hosting. Digiweb is 100% Irish-owned and run, and is headquartered in Dundalk, County Louth, with its technical, installation and sales offices in Dublin. In May 2013, it acquired the British telecommunications company Viatel. Viatel is a Dublin-based telecoms operator. Viatel was founded in 1991 by Martin Varsavsky. In 1994, it went public on the Nasdaq stock exchange. Four years later, Varsavsky sold his stake in Viatel for US$200 million and left the company. In 1999, Viatel's market capitalization was valued at US$1.2 billion. At that time, Viatel's second-largest outside shareholder was George Soros while the largest outside stake was held by the global telecommunications company COMSAT. The European arm of Viatel was purchased in May 2013, by the Irish telecoms operator Digiweb. The Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg) ( ga, An Coimisiún um Rialáil Cumarsáide) is the general communications regulator for Ireland, covering almost all possible types of communications. Founded on 1 December 2002, ComReg took over from the Office of the Director of Telecommunications Regulation (ODTR), amongst other bodies.
