Digital Archives ( no, Digitalarkivet) is a website of the National Archival Services of Norway for publishing digitized archival material. The website contains sources that are both and transcribed (searchable) and scanned. The most important searchable sources are the nationwide censuses of 1801, 1865, 1900, and 1910. National Archival Services Of Norway
The National Archival Services of Norway ( no, Arkivverket) is a Norwegian government agency that is responsible for keeping state archives, conducts control of public archiving and works to preserve private archives. It is subordinate to the Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs and consists of the National Archive (), eight regional state archives () and The Sámi Archives (). The organization has 190 employees and about of materials. The oldest complete document is from 1189. It is a letter (a so-called diploma) issued on 28 January 1189 by Pope Clement III (1187-1191) to all clergymen in Norway. The National Archive is located at Sognsvann in Oslo and preserves all central government papers from when they become 25 years old, as well as some archives from private individuals, companies and organizations. Parish Register
A parish register in an ecclesiastical parish is a handwritten volume, normally kept in the parish church in which certain details of religious ceremonies marking major events such as baptisms (together with the dates and names of the parents), marriages (with the names of the partners), children, and burials (that had taken place within the parish) are recorded. Along with these vital details, church goods, the parish's response to briefs, and notes on various happenings in the parish were also recorded. These elaborate records existed for the purpose of preventing bigamy and consanguineous marriage. The information recorded in registers was also considered significant for secular governments’ own recordkeeping, resulting in the churches supplying the state with copies of all parish registers. Regional State Archives In Bergen
The Regional State Archives in Bergen ( no, Statsarkivet i Bergen) is a regional state archives situated at Årstad, Bergen, Årstad in Bergen, Norway. Part of the National Archival Services of Norway, it is responsible for archiving documents from state institutions in the counties of Norway, counties of Hordaland and Sogn og Fjordane. The collection includes 15 shelf-kilometers of material. The office was established in 1885, as the second regional state archive in Norway. Originally situated at Klosteret 17, the archives moved to their current location in 1921. Documents from Sunnmøre were stored in Bergen until about 1930, after which they were moved to the Regional State Archives in Trondheim. Until the 1949 establishment of the Regional State Archives in Stavanger, the Bergen division was also responsible for documents from Rogaland.
