Dieter Bortfeldt FRPSL (20 March 1940Anyon, Alan & Dieter Bortfeldt. ''A different look at Colombia. Display given to The Royal Philatelic Society London 27 May 2010''. Philately (; ) is the study of postage stamps and postal history. It also refers to the collection and appreciation of stamps and other philatelic products. Philately involves more than just stamp collecting or the study of postage; it is possible to be a philatelist without owning any stamps. For instance, the stamps being studied may be very rare or reside only in museums. Etymology The word "philately" is the English transliteration of the French "", coined by Georges Herpin in 1864. Herpin stated that stamps had been collected and studied for the previous six or seven years and a better name was required for the new hobby than ''timbromanie'' (roughly "stamp quest"), which was disliked.Williams, L.N. & M. Alfredo Frohlich
Alfredo Frohlich is an American venture capitalist and philatelist who has won numerous medals at philatelic exhibitions for his postal history collections of Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, and Panama. He is an accredited philatelic judge and has been a fellow of the Royal Philatelic Society London since 2010. In 2021 he received the Luff Award of the American Philatelic Society. His interest in psychiatry led him to join the external advisory board of the University of Miami Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences for which he has run fund-raising events. He has also raised funds with his wife for a school for the autistic. Early life and family Alfredo Frohlich was born in Bogotá, Colombia.
