Dieng Plateau
The Dieng Plateau is a marshy plateau that forms the floor of a caldera complex on the Dieng Volcanic Complex in Wonosobo and Banjarnegara Regencies, Central Java Province, Indonesia. Referred to as "Dieng" by Indonesians, it sits at above sea level, far from major population centres. The name "Dieng" comes from ''Dihyang'' which means "place of the ancestors or gods". Part of General Sudirman's guerrilla campaign during the Indonesian War of Independence took place in the area. Etymology The name "Dihyang" comes from Old Javanese: ''di'' means "place" and ''hyang'' means "ancestor" or "gods", literally Dihyang means "place of the ancestors". Dihyang is a mountainous area, ancient Javanese believed that ancestors and gods resided in high places. An inscription reveals that the ancient Javanese used the Dihyang area as a center for worship. Dieng Volcanic Complex
The Dieng Volcanic Complex ( jv, ꦢꦶꦲꦾꦁ, Dihyang) is a volcanic complex located on the Dieng Plateau in the Central Java, Indonesia, a complex of volcanoes. The volcanic complex consists of two or more of stratovolcanoes, more than 20 small craters and Pleistocene-to-Holocene age volcanic cones. It covers over 6 × 14 km area. The Prahu stratovolcano was truncated by a large Pleistocene caldera and then filled by parasitic cones, lava domes and craters which is 120 Celsius. Some of them are turned into lakes. Toxic volcanic gas has caused fatalities and is a hazard at several craters. On 20 February 1979 149 people died of gas poisoning in Pekisaran village on the plateau near the Sinila crater. Aïyb Dieng is a Senegalese drummer and percussionist specializing in hand drums. He has recorded two solo album, including ''Rhythmagick'' (1995), and has worked with a wide range of musicians, including as a regular collaborator of bassist/producer Bill Laswell. Biography He was born and raised in Senegal, West Africa. By the age of 14 he was playing professionally in a band that consisted of nine relatives. Dieng received his first album credit on Brian Eno and Jon Hassell's 1980 '' Fourth World, Vol. 1: Possible Musics'', playing percussion on conga drums and a clay drum called ''ghatam''. Soon after, he worked with jazz pianist Masabumi Kikuchi on '' Susto''. Dieng also played on Mick Jagger's solo project, ''She's the Boss''. Adama Dieng (born 22 May 1950, Senegal) is a former UN Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide and former board member of the International Institute for Democracy and Electoral Assistance and a former registrar of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda. He was designated an expert on human rights in Sudan on November 12, 2021 by the UN. Life and career Adama Dieng holds degrees in law from Dakar University (CFPA) and in international law from the Research Centre of The Hague Academy of International Law. Gorgui Sy Dieng (; ; born January 18, 1990) is a Senegalese professional basketball player for the San Antonio Spurs of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Louisville Cardinals. Dieng was selected as the 21st overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft by the Utah Jazz and was traded on draft night to the Minnesota Timberwolves. He spent seven seasons with the team before being dealt to the Memphis Grizzlies in February 2020. He reached a contract buyout agreement with the Grizzlies in March 2021 and joined the San Antonio Spurs in free agency. He signed with the Hawks in August 2021. Her novel ''Aawo bi'' is noteworthy as one of the first Senegalese novels in the Wolof language Wolof (; Wolofal: ) is a language of Senegal, Mauritania, and the Gambia, and the native language of the Wolof people. Ndiaga Dieng (born 17 July 1999) is a Senegalese and Italian para-athlete of Senegalese descent who represented Italy at the 2020 Summer Paralympics. Ousmane Tanor Dieng (January 2, 1947 – July 15, 2019) was the First Secretary of the Socialist Party of Senegal. He was vice-president of the Socialist International from 1996 until his death. Personal life Born in 1947 in Nguéniène, Senegal, Dieng attended the Koranic school between the ages of 3–7. He hailed from the " Sérére" ethnic group which constitutes about 15 per cent of the Senegalese population. He began his primary education in 1955, in Nguéniène. In 1961, he attended the Andre Peytavin secondary school, St. Louis and later continued at the Maurice DELAFOSSE secondary school in Dakar, where he finished his secondary education. Oumar Dieng (born 30 December 1972) is a former professional footballer. He played for the France olympic team as a defender during the 1993 Mediterranean Games. Club career Born in Dakar, Dieng began playing youth football with ASC Jeanne d'Arc. The defender moved to France at age 15, and signed with Lille OSC after being recommended by Bernard Lama. He made his Ligue 1 debut with Lille in 1989. After a few matches with the first team, he went on loan to CS Louhans-Cuiseaux for one season.
