Die Frau Und Der Fremde
''The Woman and the Stranger'' (german: Die Frau und der Fremde) is a 1985 East German film directed by Rainer Simon. It is based on Leonhard Frank's novella "Karl und Anna" and tells the story of two friends in a POW camp during World War I. One of them escapes and forms a relationship with the other man's wife. After the war her husband returns. The film was entered into the 35th Berlin International Film Festival, where it won the Golden Bear. It is a remake of ''Homecoming'' (1928). Rainer Simon
Rainer Simon (born 11 January 1941) is a German film director and screenwriter. He directed 17 films between 1964 and 2000. His '' How to Marry a King'' (1969) and ''Six Make it Through the World'' (1972) are highly imaginative adaptations of fairy tales by the Grimm Brothers. His 1975 ''Till Eulenspiegel'' is based on Renaissance stories, which Christa and Gerhard Wolf recast into a film narration incorporating period history. His 1985 film '' The Woman and the Stranger'' won the Golden Bear award at the 35th Berlin International Film Festival. His 1980 film ''Jadup and Boel'' entered into the 16th Moscow International Film Festival in 1989. Ulrich Mühe
Friedrich Hans Ulrich Mühe (; 20 June 1953 – 22 July 2007) was a German film, television and theatre actor. He played the role of Hauptmann (Captain) Gerd Wiesler in the Oscar-winning film ''Das Leben der Anderen'' (''The Lives of Others'', 2006), for which he received the gold award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role, at the ''Deutscher Filmpreis'' (German Film Awards); and the Best Actor Award at the 2006 European Film Awards. After leaving school, Mühe was employed as a construction worker and a border guard at the Berlin Wall. He then turned to acting, and from the late 1970s into the 1980s appeared in numerous plays, becoming a star of the Deutsches Theater in East Berlin. He was active in politics and denounced Communist rule in East Germany in a memorable address at the Alexanderplatz demonstration on 4 November 1989 shortly before the fall of the Berlin Wall.
