Dictionnaire Illustré Latin-Français
The ''Dictionnaire Illustré Latin-Français'' (; ''Illustrated Latin–French Dictionary'') is a dictionary of Latin, described in French. Compiled by the French philologist Félix Gaffiot (1870–1937), it is commonly eponymized « Le Gaffiot » ("The Gaffiot") by the French. For Francophone scholars of Latin, the ''Dictionnaire'' has become the classic authority of choice. It was first published in 1934, upon completion of the work carried out by Gaffiot, which had been commissioned by the publisher, Hachette. The ''Dictionnaire'' is mentioned in the forty-fifth of the 480 memories recalled by Georges Perec in his ''Je me souviens'' (''I remember''). Layout and appearance In its original, unabridged form, the ''Dictionnaire'' is an imposing work numbering over 1,700 pages. Its illustrations and its typography have made it famous. Félix Gaffiot
Félix Gaffiot (; 27 September 1870 – 2 November 1937) was a French philologist and teacher. He was the author of the renowned 1934 work '' Dictionnaire Illustré Latin-Français'' (''Illustrated Latin–French Dictionary''), which is commonly referred to as the ''Gaffiot''. Life Félix Gaffiot was born in Liesle, in the Loue valley. He was the son of a teacher (his father) and a town clerk (his mother). Fatherless by the age of thirteen, he was nevertheless able to attend secondary school in Pontarlier thanks to a municipal scholarship. Having attained a Bachelor of Science and Letters, he was reluctant to prepare for the entrance examination to the ''École Polytechnique'', and eventually undertook an arts degree. He obtained his first teaching position at Pont-à-Mousson, all the while preparing for the ''agrégation''. ''Le Point'' () is a French weekly political and news magazine published in Paris. History and profile ''Le Point'' was founded in September 1972 by a group of journalists who had, one year earlier, left the editorial team of '' L'Express'', which was then owned by Jean-Jacques Servan-Schreiber, a ''député'' (member of parliament) of the Parti Radical, a centrist party. Stardict
StarDict, developed by Hu Zheng (胡正), is a free GUI released under the GPL-3.0-or-later license for accessing StarDict dictionary files (a ''dictionary shell''). It is the successor of StarDic, developed by Ma Su'an (馬蘇安), continuing its version numbers. According to StarDict's earlier homepage on SourceForge, the project has been removed from SourceForge due to copyright infringement reports. It moved to Google Code and then back to SourceForge, while development is now seemingly continued on GitHub. Supported platforms StarDict runs under Linux, Windows, FreeBSD, Maemo and Solaris. Dictionaries of the user's choice are installed separately. Latin (, or , ) is a classical language belonging to the Italic branch of the Indo-European languages.
