Dicromantispa Electromexicana
''Dicromantispa electromexicana'' is an extinct species of mantidfly in the neuropteran family Mantispidae known from a fossil found in North America. History and classification ''Dicromantispa electromexicana'' was described from a solitary fossil, which is preserved as an inclusion in a transparent chunk of Mexican amber. At the time of description, the amber specimen was housed in the fossil collection of the American Museum of Natural History in New York City. The holotype fossil is composed of a very complete adult male. Mexican amber is recovered from fossil bearing rocks in the Simojovel region of Chiapas, Mexico. The amber dates from between 22.5 million years old, for the youngest sediments of the Balumtun Sandstone, and 26 million years old La Quinta Formation. This age range straddles the boundary between the Late Oligocene and Early Miocene and is complicated by both formations being secondary deposits for the amber, the age range is only the youngest that it ...

Dicromantispa Moronei
''Dicromantispa moronei'' is an extinct species of mantidfly in the neuropteran family Mantispidae known from a fossil found in the Caribbean. History and classification ''Dicromantispa moronei'' was described from a solitary female holotype fossil which is preserved as an inclusion in a transparent chunk of Dominican amber. When first published, the amber resided in a private amber collection owned by Ettore Morone of Turin, Italy. The amber dates from at least the Burdigalian stage of the Miocene, based on studying the associated fossil Foraminifera and may be as old as the Middle Eocene, based on the associated fossil coccoliths. This age range is due to the host rock being secondary deposits for the amber and the Miocene the age range is only the youngest that it might be. The female was first studied by entomologists Michael Engel of the university of Kansas and David Grimaldi of the American Museum of Natural History with their 2007 type description of the species was pu ...

Mantidfly
Mantispidae, known commonly as mantidflies, mantispids, mantid lacewings, mantisflies or mantis-flies, is a family of small to moderate-sized insects in the order Neuroptera. There are many genera with around 400 species worldwide, especially in the tropics and subtropics. Only 5 species of ''Mantispa'' occur in Europe. As their names suggest, members of the group possess raptorial forelimbs similar to those of praying mantis, a case of convergent evolution. Description and ecology About long and with a wingspan of , some mantidflies such as ''Climaciella brunnea'', '' Euclimacia nodosa'' are wasp mimics, but most are brownish with green, yellow and sometimes red hues. The vernacular and scientific names are derived from their mantis-like appearance, as their spiny "raptorial" front legs are modified to catch small insect prey and are very similar to the front legs of mantids (the only difference is that the pincers lack footpads and are not used for walking at all). The adul ...
