Dick Van De Kaa
Dirk Jan "Dick" van de Kaa (born 5 January 1933) is a Dutch demographer. From 1970 to 1987 he was the first director of the Netherlands Interdisciplinary Demographic Institute ( nl). From 1987 to 1995 he was director and rector of the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study. Van de Kaa was professor of demography at the University of Amsterdam between 1978 and 1998. Life Van de Kaa was born on 5 January 1933 in Scherpenzeel. His father was a mailman while his mother was a housewife. After attending primary school during World War II he attended the Hogere Burgerschool in Amersfoort. Van de Kaa obtained a degree in social geography at Utrecht University in 1959. After obtaining his degree he had to perform military service and was sent for training to become an officer in the Netherlands Marine Corps. Scherpenzeel, Gelderland
Scherpenzeel () is a municipality and a town in the Dutch province of Gelderland. As of , it has a population of , with approximately 6,000 adults. The community of Scherpenzeel also contains a part of the hamlet of Moorst. Rudolph Cleveringa
Rudolph Pabus Cleveringa (2 April 1894, Appingedam, Netherlands – 15 December 1980, Oegstgeest, Netherlands) was a professor of law at Leiden University. He is known for his speech of 26 November 1940, in which he protested against the dismissal of Jewish colleagues ordered by the German occupation authorities. Youth and education Cleveringa was born in Appingedam. When he was four, his family moved to Heerenveen. Cleveringa received his secondary education in Leeuwarden, and studied with van Kleffens at Leiden University. In June 1917 he completed his doctoral studies and in 1919 he obtained his PhD cum laude. His thesis, emphasizing legal history aspects, was titled ''De zakelijke werking van de ontbindende voorwaarde'' ("The ''in rem'' effect of the escape clause"). The Order of the Netherlands Lion, also known as the Order of the Lion of the Netherlands ( nl, De Orde van de Nederlandse Leeuw, french: L'Ordre du Lion Néerlandais) is a Dutch order of chivalry founded by King William I of the Netherlands on 29 September 1815. The Order of the Netherlands Lion was until recently awarded to eminent individuals from all walks of life, including generals, ministers of the crown, mayors of large towns, professors and leading scientists, industrialists, high-ranking civil servants, presiding judges and renowned artists. Since 1980 the Order has been primarily used to recognise merit in the arts, science, sport and literature; others are awarded the Order of Orange-Nassau.
