Dick Duckworth (footballer Born 1880)
Richard Hargreaves Duckworth (14 September 1882 – Q3 1965) was an English association football, footballer who played as a wing half for Manchester United F.C., Manchester United, with whom he won the Football League twice and the FA Cup once. Career Born in Manchester, he played for Smedley Road School and as a youth player for Harpurhey Wesleyan Juniors, Rossall Mission and Stretford.Dykes (1994), p. 116. His first professional contract was with Newton Heath Athletic, who paid him 7 Shilling (British coin), shillings and Sixpence (British coin), sixpence a week. As a centre-forward, he scored twice against the Manchester United reserves, and he was signed by the club in October 1903. He scored on his debut, a 4–2 win over Gainsborough Trinity F.C., Gainsborough Trinity on 19 December 1903. Collyhurst
Collyhurst is an inner city area of Manchester, England, northeast of the Manchester city centre, city centre on Rochdale Road (A664) and A62 road, Oldham Road (A62), bounded by Smedley, Manchester, Smedley, Harpurhey and Monsall tram stop, Monsall to the north, Miles Platting to the east, Ancoats to the south, and the River Irk to the west. Prominent buildings include two Roman Catholic churches, St Patrick's and St Malachy's. Collyhurst sandstone Much of the red sandstone used for building in Manchester and the surrounding area, including stone for the Roman fort at Castlefield, St Ann's Church, Manchester, St Ann's Church in the city centre, Manchester Cathedral and the original buildings of Chetham's School of Music, Chetham's Hospital, came from Collyhurst Quarry. Geologists use the term Collyhurst Sandstone for this type of soft red sandstone, which occurs in North West England. The Football League XI
The English Football League XI was a representative side of the Football League. The team regularly played against the Scottish Football League XI and other national league select teams between 1891 and 1976. For a long period the annual fixture between the English and Scottish leagues was only second in importance to the matches between the two national teams. The fixture declined in importance, however, particularly after regular European club competition was instituted in the 1950s. Later matches were played irregularly and poorly attended, with the last match against the Scottish league being played in March 1976.
