Dick Carver
Richard Ellison Carver (August 28, 1937 – May 5, 2023) was an American politician who served as Mayor of Peoria, Illinois, from 1973 to 1984 and United States Assistant Secretary of the Air Force (Financial Management & Comptroller) from 1984 to 1988. Biography Carver was born in Des Moines, Iowa, on August 28, 1937. He was educated at Bradley University, graduating with a B.S. in business administration in 1959, and was named a distinguished graduate in 1983. After college, Carver became president of the Carver Lumber Company in Peoria, Illinois. He also served in the Air Force Reserve Command, eventually attaining the rank of colonel. In 1969, Carver was elected to the Peoria City Council. After four years on City Council, Carver was elected Mayor of Peoria on April 3, 1973. He was re-elected on April 5, 1977. Peoria Civic Center
Peoria Civic Center is an entertainment complex located in downtown Peoria, Illinois. Designed by Pritzker Prize winning architect Philip Johnson and John Burgee, it has an arena, theater, exhibit hall and meeting rooms. It opened in 1982 and completed an expansion to its lobby and meeting facilities in 2007. On the grounds of the Peoria Civic Center sits the massive "Sonar Tide," the last and largest sculpture of the pioneer of abstract minimalism Ronald Bladen. History The site of the Civic Center includes the spot at Liberty Street and Jefferson Street, where Moses and Lucy Pettengill lived from 1836 to 1862; that house was part of the Underground Railroad and Moses was also an Underground Railroad "conductor". David C. O’Neal (January 24, 1937 – July 10, 2021) was an American politician who served as the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Illinois from 1977 to 1981.
