Dick Black (politician)
Richard Hayden Black (born May 15, 1944) is an American politician. A Republican, he served as a member of the Virginia State Senate, representing the 13th District, which encompasses parts of both Loudoun and Prince William Counties, from 2012 to 2020. Black was previously a member of the Virginia House of Delegates from 1998 to 2006. Black announced that he would not seek re-election in 2019, instead retiring at the end of his term. Early life Black was born in northern Virginia in 1944 and grew up in Miami as the middle of three children. His father was an IRS agent who helped investigate organized crime. Black's first job was working at the Miami Serpentarium, importing cobras, vipers and other venomous snakes, and preparing them for transport to zoos throughout the world. Virginia's 13th Senate district is one of 40 districts in the Senate of Virginia. It has been represented by Democrat John Bell since 2020, succeeding retiring Republican Dick Black. Geography District 13 covers parts of Loudoun and Prince William Counties in Northern Virginia, including some or all of Purcellville, Ashburn, Broadlands, South Riding, Gainesville, and Linton Hall. Marine Corps Recruit Depot Parris Island (often abbreviated as MCRD PI) is an military installation located within Port Royal, South Carolina, approximately south of Beaufort, the community that is typically associated with the installation. Bill Haast
Bill Haast (December 30, 1910 – June 15, 2011) was the owner and operator, from 1947 until 1984, of the Miami Serpentarium, a tourist attraction south of Miami, Florida, where he extracted venom from snakes in front of paying customers. After closing the Serpentarium, he opened the Miami Serpentarium Laboratories, a facility in Punta Gorda, Florida that produced snake venom for medical and research use. Haast extracted venom from venomous snakes from the time he was a boy. Haast physically extracted venom from venomous snakes by holding them by the head and forcing them to bite a rubber membrane covering a vial.
