Diaoyucheng (opera)
''Diàoyúchéng'' (钓鱼城) is a 2012 Chinese-language western-style opera based on the story of the siege of Diaoyu Fortress during the Mongol conquest of the Song Dynasty, and the resistance of the brothers Ran Jin and Ran Pu. The work was produced by staff of Chongqing Opera. Music was collectively composed by Xu Zhanhai (徐占海) Zheng Bing (郑冰) and Wang Hua (王华) to a libretto by Feng Boming (冯柏铭) and Feng Bilie (冯必烈). Chinese-language Western-style Opera
Chinese contemporary classical opera (Chinese: 当今古典歌剧; ''dāngjīn gŭdiăn gējù''; "contemporary classical opera") is a musical art form drawing on western opera traditions - distinct from modern developments of traditional Chinese opera. One of the first western-style operas was ''The White Haired Girl'' (1940). Chinese-language western-style opera is to be distinguished the Revolutionary operas of the Cultural Revolution such as ''Taking Tiger Mountain by Strategy'' which were mainly an adaption of Peking opera with socialist text and subjects, with some influence from Soviet musical theatre. Diaoyu Fortress
The Diaoyucheng (), or Diaoyu Fortress, is a fortress located on the Diaoyu Mountain in Heyang Town, Hechuan District, Chongqing. It is known for its resistance to the Mongol armies in the latter half of the Song dynasty. History The death of Mongol leader Möngke Khan during the siege of Diaoyucheng resulted in the immediate withdrawal of Mongol troops from Syria and East Asia. Although the Mongols and the Southern Song were united in their fight to bring down the Jurchen Jin dynasty, their pact broke immediately afterwards, and the Mongols launched an aggressive war against the tenacious Southern Song that lasted for more than a third of the 13th century. In the period from 1243 to 1279, Diaoyu experienced more than two hundred military confrontations in a miracle of "persistent resistance" that endured for thirty-six years. The Mongol conquest of the Song dynasty or the Mongol invasion of China beginning under Ögedei Khan (r. 1229 – 1241) and completed under Kublai Khan (r. 1260–1294) was the final step for the Mongols to rule the whole of continental East Asia under the Yuan dynasty (a division of the Mongol Empire). The National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) (), and colloquially described as The Giant Egg (巨蛋), is an arts centre containing an opera house in the Xicheng District of Beijing, People's Republic of China.
