Dianne Leigh
Dianne Leigh (born , sometimes spelled as Diane Leigh) is a Canadian country music performer. She was the first recipient of the Gold Leaf Award (later the Juno Awards) in 1970. In 1994, music trade publication ''RPM'' considered her the ninth top Canadian country artist of the past 30 years based on her standings in the publication's charts. Leigh recorded in the late 1960s for the American label Chart Records but failed to make the US charts with any single releases. Her Canadian hits "The Wife You Save May Be Your Own" (written by Liz Anderson) and "I'm Gonna Let George Do It" are featured in the 1969 Chart compilation album ''Best of Our Country Girls'' with additional tracks by Lynn Anderson, Maxine Brown, Connie Eaton, and LaWanda Lindsey. Ray Griff
John Raymond David Griff (April 22, 1940 – March 9, 2016) was a Canadian country music singer and songwriter, born in Vancouver and raised in Toronto. His songwriting credits reached over 2500 songs, many of which were recorded by Nashville's top recording artists. Early life and career Griff was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada and raised in Winfield, Alberta. He began songwriting in the early 1960s and had early cuts by Johnny Horton, Jim Reeves, and others. Griff moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1964 to pursue his music career full-time. His first records as a singer were released in the late 1960s and Griff had his first hit, " Patches", a remake of the Clarence Carter soul hit in 1970 which peaked at No. 26 in '' Billboard''. Canadian Country Music Hall Of Fame
The Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame honours Canadian country music artists, builders or broadcasters, living or deceased. The artifact collection includes extensive biographical information on the inductees. It is located in downtown Merritt, British Columbia at 2025 Quilchena Avenue. The facility is open year-round for custom tours, and is open to the public on seasonally adjusted hours. The initiative is governed by a not-for-profit society (the Canadian Country Music Heritage Society). In 2009, Cantos Music Foundation (now the National Music Centre) in Calgary, Alberta, became the owner of the Canadian Country Music Hall of Fame's artifact collection after a transfer of ownership from Deb Buck, wife of deceased Hall of Fame member Gary Buck. The Juno Awards of 1974, representing Canadian music industry achievements of the previous year, were awarded on 25 March 1974 in Toronto at a ceremony at the Inn on the Park's Centennial ballroom hosted by George Wilson of CFRB radio's ''Starlight Serenade'' programme. No television broadcasts had yet been planned for the Junos, prompting the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA) to plan an April 1974 ceremony entitled the Maple Music Awards. Amid some music industry criticism over the proposed competition of awards ceremonies, CRIA backed down from its own ceremonies in February 1974, about a month after the Maple Music Awards were announced. The Juno Awards of 1971 ( Juno Award), representing Canadian music industry achievements of the previous year, were awarded on 22 February 1971 in Toronto at a ceremony in the St. Lawrence Hall. These would be the first awards to be formally titled the Junos as decided by RPM Magazine in 1970 following its first formal music awards event. George Wilson of CFRB radio was master of ceremonies for the awards for the second consecutive year. Atlantic Canadians were particularly successful at the awards in 1971, most notably producer Brian Ahern and artists Stompin' Tom Connors, Gene MacLellan and Anne Murray, prompting Murray to quip to the audience about the emergence of a "Maritime Mafia" in the Canadian music scene.
