Diane English
Diane English (born May 18, 1948) is an American screenwriter, producer and director, best known for creating the television show ''Murphy Brown'' and writing and directing the 2008 feature film '' The Women''. Early life English was born in Buffalo, New York, the daughter of Anne English and Richard English who was an electrical engineer. She graduated from Nardin Academy in Buffalo, and then from Buffalo State College in 1970. Career English began her career at WNET, the PBS affiliate in New York City, working first as a story editor for ''The Theatre in America'' series, and then as associate director of '' TV Lab''. From 1977 to 1980, she wrote a monthly column on television for ''Vogue'' magazine. In 1980, she co-wrote PBS' ''The Lathe of Heaven'', an adaptation of Ursula K. LeGuin's science fiction novel of the same name, and received her first Writers Guild Award Nomination. Pamela Dawber (born October 18, 1951) is an American actress best known for her lead television sitcom roles as Mindy McConnell in ''Mork & Mindy'' (1978–1982) and Samantha Russell in ''My Sister Sam'' (1986–1988). Early life Dawber was born in Detroit, the older of two daughters of Thelma M. (née Fisher) and Eugene E. Dawber, a commercial artist. ''Ink'' is an American television sitcom which aired on CBS from October 21, 1996 to May 19, 1997 that starred real-life husband and wife Ted Danson and Mary Steenburgen as divorced newspaper journalists, allegedly inspired by the film ''His Girl Friday''. ''Love & War'' is an American sitcom television series which aired on CBS from September 21, 1992, to February 1, 1995. Created by Diane English, the series originally starred Susan Dey as Wally Porter, a New York City restaurateur, and Jay Thomas as Jack Stein, a newspaper columnist with whom she had an on-again, off-again romance. After the first season, however, the show was retooled and Dey was fired by the producers of the show, saying that she and Thomas had "no chemistry" together. She was replaced by Annie Potts as Dana Palladino, who bought Porter's restaurant and also became a love interest for Jack.
