Diane (Hüsker Dü Song)
"Diane" is a song by American band Hüsker Dü that appears on their '' Metal Circus'' EP from 1983, but appeared in their live set as early as 1981, as evidenced by its inclusion in a recording from August that year which appears on the compilation '' Savage Young Dü''. The song was written by drummer Grant Hart, and concerns the murder of West St. Paul waitress Diane Edwards by Joseph Ture Jr. in 1980. Therapy? version Northern Irish metal band Therapy? covered the song and released it as a single on November 6, 1995, on A&M Records. The song is featured on the ''Infernal Love'' album in a radically different arrangement from the original, featuring only cello and vocals. The single reached number 26 on the UK Singles Chart and number 20 on the Irish Singles Chart. The single entered the top 10 in several European countries, winning an award for best single from ''Humo'' magazine in Belgium. Hüsker Dü
Hüsker Dü () was an American punk rock band formed in Saint Paul, Minnesota in 1979. The band's continuous members were guitarist/vocalist Bob Mould, bassist Greg Norton, and drummer/vocalist Grant Hart. They first gained notability as a hardcore punk band, and later crossed over into alternative rock. Mould and Hart were the band's principal songwriters, with Hart's higher-pitched vocals and Mould's baritone taking the lead in alternating songs. The band issued their debut studio album ''Everything Falls Apart'' on Reflex Records in 1983 and subsequently released three LPs and an EP on the independent label SST Records, including the critically acclaimed ''Zen Arcade'' in 1984. Hüsker Dü signed to major label Warner Bros. Records in 1986 to release their final two studio albums. They disbanded in 1988. Martin McCarrick (born 29 July 1962) is an English cellist, keyboardist, guitarist and composer, best known for being a member of Siouxsie and the Banshees for seven years, from 1987 until 1995. Aside from being a live and recording artist, he is also a teacher and visiting lecturer in music. Michael McKeegan
Michael McKeegan (born 25 March 1971) is a Northern Irish musician best known as the bassist of rock band Therapy?. Evil Priest In 1988, McKeegan (bass/vocals), along with his two brothers Ciaran (guitar) and Charlie (drums), formed a heavy metal band, Evil Priest. The group recorded two demo cassettes - "Pretention Is No Excuse" and "Hear No Evil...". The fledgling group disbanded in 1989 when Michael McKeegan joined Therapy?. Therapy? In 1989, while McKeegan was still at school, his classmate Fyfe Ewing handed him a four song cassette that he had recorded with Andy Cairns, entitled "Thirty Seconds of Silence". Fyfe Alexander Ewing (born 1 November 1970), is best known as the original drummer and founding member of rock band Therapy?. Therapy? In 1989, while playing drums in a punk covers band at a charity gig in Jordanstown, Ewing met Andy Cairns and subsequently formed Therapy? with Cairns on guitar and Michael McKeegan on bass. Ewing and Cairns would share lead vocal duties. In his near seven-year spell with the million selling outfit, Ewing recorded three full-length albums, two mini-albums and numerous EP's (as well as featuring heavily on two compilation albums and a box set following his departure) before leaving the band in January 1996.
