Diamanten Kogel
The Diamanten Kogel (i.e. Diamond Bullet) is an annual award for the best original Dutch crime novel. It is awarded by the Genootschap van Vlaamse Misdaadauteurs in Belgium. The Gouden Strop is its counterpart in the Netherlands. The award consists of a silver knuckle-duster with four diamonds, designed by Wim Delvoye. Patrick Conrad
Patrick Conrad (born 16 July 1945 in Antwerp) is a Flemish poet, screenwriter and novelist, and one of the founders of The Pink Poets. He also directed about twenty movies for cinema and television, including – selected for the Cannes Festival – ''Mascara'' with Charlotte Rampling and Michael Sarrazin. He is also working as a painter and had two retrospective exhibitions of his work: in 1975 (Museum of Fine Arts of Antwerp) and 2005 (Museum Elzenveld, Antwerp). He lives in Provence, in the south of France. Dutch language literature () comprises all writings of literary merit written through the ages in the Dutch language, a language which currently has around 23 million native speakers. Dutch-language literature is the product of the Netherlands, Belgium, Suriname, the Netherlands Antilles and of formerly Dutch-speaking regions, such as French Flanders, South Africa, and Indonesia. The Dutch East Indies, as Indonesia was called under Dutch colonization, spawned a separate subsection in Dutch-language literature. Conversely, Dutch-language literature sometimes was and is produced by people originally from abroad who came to live in Dutch-speaking regions, such as Anne Frank and Kader Abdolah. In its earliest stages, Dutch-language literature is defined as those pieces of literary merit written in one of the Dutch dialects of the Low Countries. Jef Geeraerts
Jozef Adriaan Anna Geeraerts (23 February 1930 – 11 May 2015), better known as Jef Geeraerts, was a Belgian writer. Geeraerts was born in Antwerp. After his studies in political and administrative sciences at the Colonial University of Belgium in Antwerp he became a colonial administrator in Belgian Congo. On the independence of the Congo he sent his wife and children back to Belgium and in August 1960 he himself returned to Belgium. During the next six years he was paid by the government (return program). After that time he needed to find a job to survive. He decided to become a writer and went to the University of Brussels to study Germanic languages. Career as a writer When he had finished his studies he wrote his first novel, ''Ik ben maar een neger'' ("I'm just a negro"), which put him on the map as extremely controversial. Esther Verhoef
Esther is the eponymous heroine of the Book of Esther. In the Achaemenid Empire, the Persian king Ahasuerus seeks a new wife after his queen, Vashti, is deposed for disobeying him. Hadassah, a Jewess who goes by the name of Esther, is chosen to fulfill this role due to her beauty. Ahasuerus' grand vizier, Haman, is offended by Esther's cousin and guardian, Mordecai, due to his refusal to prostrate himself before Haman. Consequently, Haman plots to have all the Jewish subjects of Persia killed, and convinces Ahasuerus to permit him to do so. However, Esther foils the plan by revealing Haman's eradication plans to Ahasuerus, who then has Haman executed and grants permission to the Jews to kill their enemies instead, as royal edicts (including the order for eradication issued by Haman) cannot be revoked under Persian law. Felix Thijssen
Felix Thijssen (24 November 1933 – 26 July 2022) was a Dutch author of crime novels, science fiction novels and books for children. In 1999 he won the "Gouden Strop", prize for the best Dutch crime novel, for "Cleopatra". In 2006 he won the " Diamanten Kogel", Belgian prize for the best crime novel, for "Het diepe water" (Deep water). Simon De Waal
Simon de Waal (born in Amsterdam in 1961) is a Dutch writer. He has specialized in television and film scripts, he won the ''Golden Calf'' in 2000 (grand prize for the Netherlands Film), for best screenplay for the film ''Leak''. ''Leak'' also won best film, best director and best actor, and several international awards, making it one of the most successful Dutch films. Several of the series he wrote, were either nominated or awarded with prizes for best television series in the Netherlands, for instance Unit 13, Bureau Kruislaan and Baantjer. Baantjer won the 'Golden Televizier Ring' for best series, after being nominated for it twice.
