Baldina Di Vittorio (16 October 1920 – 2 January 2015) was an Italian politician. Biography Born Balda Di Vittorio in Cerignola, Province of Foggia, the daughter of the syndicalist trade unionist Giuseppe, Di Vittorio was registered in the Communist Party since 1938. At the outbreak of the Second World War she was interned in the Rieucros camp in the Lozère department, and after the collapse of France she took refuge in the United States with her husband. Giuseppe Di Vittorio
Giuseppe Di Vittorio (Cerignola, 11 August 1892 – Lecco, 3 November 1957), also known as Nicoletti, was an Italian trade union leader and Communist politician. He was one of the most influential trade union leaders of the labour movement after World War I. Early life Giuseppe Di Vittorio was born in Cerignola, Apulia, into a family of poor agricultural day laborers. After his father's death, Di Vittorio was forced to leave school and work as a day laborer. He joined the May 1904 general strike during which five workers were killed by troops in Cerignola. Di Vittorio was strongly influenced by the growth of peasants' organizations and the spread of socialist ideas, giving rise to his participation in the local young socialist organization in Cerignola. He was radicalised by affiliating with the national Federazione Giovanile Socialista (Federation of Young Socialists), led by syndicalists in opposition to the official Socialist Party Youth Federation. Salvatore Di Vittorio (born 22 October 1967 in Palermo) is an Italian composer and conductor. He is music director and Conductor of the Chamber Orchestra of New York. He has been recognized by Luigi Verdi (Philharmonic Academy of Bologna) as a "lyrical musical spirit, respectful of the ancient Italian tradition… an emerging leading interpreter of the music of Ottorino Respighi".
