Dhoby Ghaut Green
Dhoby Ghaut Green is an urban park in Singapore located adjacent to Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, opposite the Park Mall. History On 18 September 2021, Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong announced that a garden at Dhoby Ghaut Green could be chosen as a public space dedicated to the women of Singapore as part of a proposal by the Singapore Council of Women's Organisations that was accepted by the Government. Design The park was designed by Soo K. Chan of SCDA Architects. Chan was commissioned by the Urban Redevelopment Authority to conceptualize and design the space after he won the Designer of the Year title in Architecture and Urban Design in 2006 at the inaugural President's Design Award, the nation's highest honor for excellence in design. Dhoby Ghaut
Dhoby Ghaut () is a place in Singapore that often refers to the Dhoby Ghaut MRT station, a major interchange station on Singapore's Mass Rapid Transit network connecting the North-South Line, North East Line, and the Circle Line. As a place, Dhoby Ghaut lies along the eastern end of Orchard Road. There is a shopping mall above the MRT station called Plaza Singapura. Etymology Dhoby Ghaut was influenced from ''Dhobi Ghat'' , which literally means ''washerman's place'' in Hindi, from ''dhobi'', "washerman" or one that does laundry, and ''ghat'', referring to a series of steps leading down to a body of water, as in the case of the Varanasi ghats by the Ganges. The Hindi term ''ghat'' passed into English usage during the British occupation of India, and was later anglicised to '' ghaut''. National Parks Board
The National Parks Board (NParks) is a statutory board under the Ministry of National Development of the Government of Singapore. History In November 1989, Minister of National Development, S. Dhanabalan, presented the National Parks Bill in Parliament to form a body to manage the three parks, Singapore Botanic Gardens, Fort Canning Park and Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, in Singapore. In March 1990, Minister of State for National Development, Lee Boon Yang introduced the National Parks Bill in Parliament to form the National Parks Board as a statutory board. On 6 June 1990, the National Parks Board was formed to manage the three parks. On 1 July 1996, the Parks and Recreation Department was merged with the National Parks Board. Since 1 April 2019, all non-food plant and animal-related functions originally under the Agri-Food and Veterinary Authority of Singapore were transferred to NParks under Animal and Veterinary Service (AVS) as part of a reorganisation. Lee Hsien Loong (; born 10 February 1952) is a Singaporean politician and former brigadier-general who has been serving as Prime Minister of Singapore and Secretary-General of the People's Action Party since 2004. He has been the Member of Parliament (MP) representing the Teck Ghee division of Ang Mo Kio GRC since 1991, and previously Teck Ghee SMC between 1984 and 1991. Born in Singapore during British colonial rule, Lee is the eldest son of Singapore's first prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew.
