Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram is an ecclesiastical institution of higher learning established by the Syrian Catholic congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate (CMI) for Catholic education, as an independent institute empowered to grant degrees, including Doctorates in Philosophy and Theology. Located in Bengaluru, India, it is a pontifical athenaeum with degree-granting authority validated by the Vatican. History Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram was established at Dharmaram College, the Central Study House of the CMI, an indigenous religious congregation founded in 1831. The Study House which was founded in 1918 at Chethipuzha, Kerala was moved to Bangalore in 1957. Carmelites Of Mary Immaculate
The Carmelites of Mary Immaculate ( la, Congregatio Fratrum Carmelitarum Beatae Virginis Mariae Immaculatae) abbreviated CMI, formerly also known as the Servants of Mary Immaculate ( ml, അമലോത്ഭവ ദാസ സംഘം), is a Catholic clerical religious congregation of pontifical right for men of the Syro-Malabar Catholic Church, and is the largest such congregation in the Syro-Malabar Church. It was founded on 8 December 1855, by Indian priests Thomas Palackal, Thomas Porukara, and Kuriakose Elias Chavara, of Christ University who were priests of the Apostolic Church of Saint Thomas Christians in India. Brother Jacob Kanianthara was inspired by the vision of the founding fathers and served them in the foundation of the congregation. Mar Emmanuel Giles Pothanamuzhi, C. M. I. (5 August 1932 – 6 April 2003) was a Syro-Malabar bishop. He was born in Nadukkara, near Muvattupuzha, India. He was ordained as a priest in the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate in 1964. A botanist who lectured at Sacred Heart College, Ernakulam, he was the founder principal of Christ College, Bangalore (1969-1983) and rector of the CMI major seminary, Dharmaram College, Bangalore (1990-1996). Jose Nandhikkara CMI (born 16 February 1964) is a professor of philosophy at Dharmaram Vidya Kshetram and Christ University, both in Bangalore, India. He is the author of several books including ''Environmental Interface: Literature, Law, Science, Philosophy'' and ''Ethical Interface: Literature, Economics, Politics, Religion.'' Paul Poovathingal (born 1961), popularly known as the 'Padum Pathiri' or 'singing priest of India', is a carnatic music (Indian classical music) vocalist, composer and lyricist and is the first vocologist in India. Joseph Pathrapankal (29 September 1930 – 27 February 2022) was an Indian New Testament Scholar and Syro-Malabar priest belonging to the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate. He first studied at the Jnana-Deepa Vidyapeeth in Pune and then went to the Pontifical Biblical Institute where he obtained a Licentiate in Sacred Scripture in 1960. He then became a Lecturer then Professor of New Testament, and from 1976 to 1979 and 1979 to 1985 the Vice-President and President at Dharmārām Vidya Kshetram (DVK), Bengaluru.
